Olympic Interest?

Olympic Interest? was created by FredHayek
Going to watch the games intently including all the opening and closing ceremonies? I have one friend who will pretty much do nothing else for the next 2 weeks, but I just don't have a lot of interest. If I will be in a bar, I might watch part of it, but I don't find it must-see worthy.

I enjoy watching gymnastics, rythmic gymnastics (but they rarely televise that), swimming (but it can get tedious), diving, and some of the track and field events. The opening and closing ceremonies are usually too long and the reporters that provide commentary can sometimes be awful.

My kids are salivating at it starting! Tomorrow also happens to be my daughter's birthday so we'll have to record the Opening Ceremonies so we can take her to the Denver Aquarium restaurant to celebrate. We're looking forward to the Taekwondo tournaments, the swimming, diving, archery, a little gymnastics and a little track and field. They'd be happy to sit and watch as much as possible, but that's not gonna happen.

I love the Olympics, it feels like we're a little more united in a common quest, and getting a little bit of exposure to different cultures.

It should be interesting to see how social media plays out in all this too. Anyone following any specific athletes or any of the official Olympics accounts?

They even have an official guide for blogging for participants! I wonder how big their staff is that will be monitoring all the athletes, staff's, and venue workers' accounts? :scared:

Since we went to the same school, I hope Missy Franklin grabs gold.

Haven't watched the olympics much if at all in many years for a variety of solid reasons, probably won't watch this year either. Just one of the reasons why I lost interest was dillusion of it's importance/excitement with the propensity to add weird/stupid special sports and events. I'd turn on occasionally and see speed walking or badminton or bowling or syncronized swimming or curling and turn it off wondering WTF ?

I heard this year they are having dressage as an event....had to look that one up. When I found out what it was I laughed until I turned purple....people in weird cloths riding around slow in circles on horses. This is an olympic event ? What's up for next olympics then ? Pharding in the bath tub contests ? How about Beer pong or pig calling ?

Usually skip opening and closing. Like having dish to record and fast forward through the slow parts, watching only what is of interest.

While I understand and greatly appreciate the history of the Olympics, I more than likely won't watch any of it. Sure I'll hope the US does well as always, but the fact of the matter is that I really don't watch much tv anyway so very little ever falls into the "must see" category for me as it is.

We dropped DirectTV and just watch stuff on the Internet. The only political ads I've seen are the ones posted on here.

Well we will have to make sure you get to see more ads Raees. Don't want you to miss out.

I will probably record a lot of the Olypics and watch at a later time. But if it will keep raining I just might get a chance to watch sooner.

Political ads are the bane of America. They've dumbed down the voting public.
