What's in Your "in the Ditch" Kit?

Winter is coming and as much as we all like to believe that an extended stay in the ditch or on a snowbound highway is not in our future, what will you have on hand in your car/truck/SUV when it happens?

Here is a list to start with, what would you add?

Essentials for Winter driving:

Cell phone and extra batteries that are already charged
Blankets, surplus military wool blankets preferred because they are warm even when wet
Water, remember water expands when it freezes so pick containers that can handle that and leave some head space
Jumper cables
Portable compressor/AM/FM radio
MREs and other beyond shelf stable foods
Sterno, candles (be very careful of CO, crack a could of windows if using for cooking or heat)
Strike anywhere matches in waterproof containers, have more than one in case one container is contaminated
Flashlights, plural
Spare batteries for the flashlights, be sure to rotate the stock to ensure fresh batteries are on hand
Paper towels
Bog roll
Kitty litter
E-tool
Multi-tool such as a Leatherman or Gerber
Road flares x a dozen
Basic tool kit

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

Let me guess: you were a Boy Scout.

I got a sleeping bag, powerbar and a couple of little bottles of Jack Daniels.

I speak Otis. I'll translate:

"Be very careful of carbon monoxide. Crack a couple of windows, if using for cooking or heat."

Because in Otis' world, if you run into a ditch in the middle of winter it's time for a weenie roast in your car. How else are you gonna use up all those MRE's you stocked up on when Obama became president?

It would never hold up in court. He couldn't prove I drank it before the accident.

I always carry a couple of little bottles of Jack Daniels. It's called the "Frank Azar" defense.

lol Raees you crack me up.

Had me laughing all day thinking about the Officer that would be showing up eventually.

And not to get this kicked to the courthouse, but by your response you are probably expecting it, typical liberal who expects someone else to save him instead of being prepared to manage on his own.

As to the OP, a sleeping bag cuz I like to snuggle and retain heat which I do better than with blankets, although piling them on top wouldn't hurt either, a red triangle or two- warning reflectors in the event the flares get used up.

Pretty good list you have there Otis.

You cracked me up as well, reading WAY too much into my comment.

Considering your responses to other posts, really not reading way too much into your comments. It does sound like a stupid liberal response. You going to starve for the remainder of the time?

Because I climb mountains a harness and ropes are worthwhile to keep in a vehicle.

Oh the drama! I'm going to starve after getting stuck in a ditch on 285.

Or I could just call the tow company and get pulled out before I starve.
