CNN reporting that close to 20 people dead at this point, including at least 10 elementary kids. Over 100 rounds reported fired.
Latest update is 27 people, 18 of which are school kids.

How do we stop this kind of thing happening? I just keep thinking of my kindergartner at school right now and how I'd feel getting that call, not knowing, then finding out the worst. It makes me cry all over again. And the kids that survived will never be the same.

Not only will the kids that survived never be the same, but now their parents are going to second-guess the safety of everything. Short of locking the school's doors during the school day and having metal detectors at every entrance or searching each and every person that comes into the school...well, and people being more observant...there isn't a whole lot to do.
I'm curious to know about the shooter...why & who. It won't bring anyone back or undo this, but if everyone paid attention to why and tried to alleviate it, these types of tragedies could be eliminated or reduced in the future.
