I'm not addicted to TV, but I am addicted to good TV. A friend, who knows me well, thought I would like this and suggested I check it out. He got it right!
Based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth; the story follows twenty-two year old Jenny, who in 1957 leaves her comfortable home to become a midwife in London's East End slums. She expects to find a hospital, and is surprised to find that the clinic is a convent: Nonnatus House. Working alongside her fellow nurses and the medically-trained nuns, Jenny has her eyes opened to the harsh living conditions. But she also discovers the warm hearts and the bravery of the mothers; each one a heroine in Jenny's eyes.
It's a BBC series that's aired on PBS but I have have watched the first two seasons with my Roku box on Netflix. My favorite character is Chummy and I melt at the end of every episode when they play the old songs.
I can hardly wait for Season 3 and the Christmas Special on December 29th. I am a confirmed Midwife junkie!
You can find Season 1 and 2 on DVD. Season 2 DVD has last year's Christmas Special which was just fabulous. I have a Roku box with a Netflix subscription and that's where I found the series. They start Season 3 in March, I believe. It is a BBC series that is aired on PBS but I'm not sure it's on the PBS programming out of the Denver-metro.
I had been saving the last episode so I could watch it with a friend who is also a Midwife junkie. We finally watched it last night and I have to say, it was so so so good!! We both got a little misty eyed! I'm sure I'll be spending December 29th with her at her house so we can watch the Christmas Special together.
