Meet husband and wife Volunteer Firefighters Berkeley and Kassie Guy. Their newborn, little Moxin Guy is having a tough time of it. Things are starting to look up, but it was touch and go for awhile. The little fellow was airlifted to a pediatric intensive care unit, where he's been for the last week. Berkeley and Kassie have insurance, but there's a lot that insurance does not cover. If you can help them out, please do. I serve with these two, and you'll not find more dedicated volunteer firefighters or better people on the planet.

Thank you for sharing this Michael, I hope for the best for them!

Well a huge setback. I have a huge love hate relationship with this machine. It is saving my sons life but at the same time I want to throw it out the window. He was off it all day and doing awesome. He went down for his MRI and went in for an hour and came back tired and lacking oxygen. They couldn't use ventilators that he was on due to the magnets in the machine. The anesthesiologist had to give him oxygen and bag him during the process. Being in the tube the bagging was tough and not solid support. He is now back on the heavy ventilator at settings he started yesterday morning at. The doctors goal is to get him back to the conventional vent tomorrow but it is an extremely frustrating and discouraging thing. Moxin is doing an incredible job and is tolerating this torture tremendously. Kassie and I were talking while he was in his MRI and saying how we can count the amount of times he has showed himself crying on one hand and not use all of our fingers. If it were me I don't think I would stop crying if I were in his place. He is a fighter and a trooper and we are a couple of proud parents to say the least. It is a discouraging night at best but we are staying positive and marching toward our goal of having our baby in our arms. Once again I am stunned and humbled by all the love and support we are getting and feeling from everyone. We are forever in debt to each and every one of you and will live our lives to repay that. It has been a life changing experience. Here's to a good night ahead for Moxin and a productive day tomorrow.

We made it, can't believe my baby is a week old. It's so nice to end this day on such a happy note, a week ago we were scared to death for his life. Moxin you have amazed mommy and daddy, you are one tough little guy! This is one happy momma right here!

Berkeley Guy - Team Moxin

I'm already beginning to not be able to keep up with my son. We walked in this morning just to say hi to him before heading home to grab more clothes and necessities and the nurse tells us they are about to take the tube out of his mouth and off the ventilator. A half hour later that was done and he was put on a CPAP which is in his nose and keep oxygen going in through pressure.(that's a first responders definition anyhow). We are hearing his voice and cry for the first time ever! Although it is raspy. When we were getting him comfortable the respiratory therapist said "you have come a long way since yesterday being on the oscillator" and the nurse wide eyed said " he was on the oscillator yesterday". HELL YEAH He was. And pretty soon he is gonna be benching pressing 50lbs with mommy just like Loren Schuessler said. This little guy is amazing and there are a couple proud parents standing right next him. We have come a long way in just a week. A baby that was limp and blue not breathing with no hope to live to a baby pink and warm to breathing on his own. How incredible.

Kassie just got a call from the doctor with great news. I tried to get her to post it but apparently she is Facebook shy. The doctor said she got the official results from the MRI and both the neurologist and radiologist agree that everything on the results were normal. Also he was just getting his EEG which measures brain waves and activity (again first responder definition) and the doc took a peak before it was over and said everything looked to be normal from what she could see obviously we still need the neurologist to look at it but that is incredible news. She hopes to have him on a high flow nasal cannula which is just oxygen entering through tubes into the nose. At that point we are hoping Kassie can start working on breast feeding and we feel we are getting close to leaving this hospital. Definitely miracles in the working
