Always wondered if it less time going over one of the Passes between 285 to hwy 24 in order to get to 82 ?

You won't save any time going over Weston or Mosquito, but they are "interesting".

If you try Mosquito, be sure your life (and auto) insurance is paid-up... I did it once....Never again.

Weston can be done in a passenger car with a little clearance. Mosquito is steeper, rougher and can be done in a stock 4x4 with low range for speed control. Here is a good site for conditions on passes.
