...WINTER STORM WATCH FOR THE PLAINS THURSDAY EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY
EVENING...

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTHEAST AND NORTH CENTRAL
COLORADO.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

CLOUDS WILL THICKEN TODAY AS A STORM SYSTEM DEVELOPS TO THE WEST OF
COLORADO...BUT TEMPERATURES WILL STILL BE MILD. THERE IS A SLIGHT
CHANCE OF LIGHT SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS LATE TONIGHT.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

A WINTER STORM IS STILL EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE FORECAST AREA
LATER THURSDAY...AND CONTINUE WELL INTO SATURDAY. THE POTENTIAL FOR
SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL STILL EXISTS WITH THIS STORM...BUT THE
SPECIFICS STILL REMAIN QUITE MUDDLED. ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 12
INCHES WILL BE A FAIR ESTIMATE FOR NOW ACROSS THE PLAINS FROM
THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY NIGHT. SOME AREAS OF THE PLAINS COULD
GET MORE...DEPENDING ON THE EVENTUAL TRACK OF THE STORM. WINDS WILL
INCREASE ACROSS THE PLAINS...ESPECIALLY OVER THE EASTERN HALF...
STARTING AFTER MIDNIGHT THURSDAY NIGHT CONTINUING INTO FRIDAY
EVENING. THIS WILL CAUSE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW ALONG WITH
REDUCED VISIBILITIES. UNSETTLED WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE
INTO SATURDAY AS THE WINTER STORM LEAVES THE STATE BUT LINGERS OVER
THE CENTRAL PLAINS. DRY WEATHER WILL RETURN SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY
WITH WARMING TEMPERATURES.

HE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE
COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER.
THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED AN AVALANCHE
WATCH FOR THE COLORADO FRONT RANGE MOUNTAINS AND SANGRE DE CRISTO
RANGE EAST OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE.
A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM IS DEVELOPING OVER UTAH THURSDAY MORNING.
AS THE SYSTEM MOVES EAST, A CLOSED LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DEVELOPS OVER
THE FOUR CORNERS RESULTING IN EASTERLY UPSLOPE FLOW FOR ALL AREAS
EAST OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE. WIDESPREAD ONE TO TWO FOOT SNOWFALL
ACCUMULATIONS, WITH LOCAL AREAS OF THREE FEET, ARE POSSIBLE THURSDAY
NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY FOR AREAS OF THE FRONT RANGE MOUNTAINS AND
SANGRE DE CRISTO RANGE EAST OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE. GUSTY
NORTHEAST WINDS WILL ACCOMPANY THE SNOW ON FRIDAY. THE CURRENT
SNOWPACK FOUNDATION IS VERY WEAK. THE RAPID ADDITION OF A
SIGNIFICANT SNOW LOAD WILL RESULT IN WIDESPREAD AVALANCHE ACTIVITY.
PAY ATTENTION TO CHANGING WEATHER AND SNOWPACK CONDITIONS.
BACKCOUNTRY USERS WILL NEED TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION AS THIS
SYSTEM EVOLVES ON FRIDAY.
AN AVALANCHE WATCH MEANS THAT IF FORECAST WEATHER VERIFIES, THE
AVALANCHE DANGER WILL RISE TO HIGH IN THE WATCH AREA. THIS WATCH IS
IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM FRIDAY AT WHICH TIME AN UPDATE WILL BE
PROVIDED WITH POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
THIS STATEMENT IS OF PARTICULAR INTEREST TO PERSONS USING THE
BACKCOUNTRY OUTSIDE DEVELOPED SKI AREA BOUNDARIES. WHEN NECESSARY
SKI AREAS USE AVALANCHE CONTROL METHODS WITHIN THEIR BOUNDARIES TO

...MAJOR WINTER STORM TO AFFECT NORTHERN COLORADO TONIGHT THROUGH
FRIDAY NIGHT WITH BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OVER THE PALMER DIVIDE AND PLAINS
OF NORTHEAST COLORADO...

.A WINTER STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING SNOW TO THE FORECAST AREA
STARTING LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUING THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT.
THE STORM WILL BE SLOW MOVING...SO A PROLONGED PERIOD OF SNOW WILL
OCCUR FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT WITH HEAVY SNOW AT
TIMES TONIGHT AND FRIDAY. OVER THE PLAINS OF NORTHEASTERN COLORADO
THE SNOW WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY STRONG WINDS CREATING BLIZZARD
CONDITIONS LATE TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT WITH VERY POOR
VISIBILITIES.

11 PM MST FRIDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DENVER HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON
TO 11 PM MST FRIDAY.

* TIMING...SNOW WILL DEVELOP LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE
THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL DEVELOP LATER
THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY...THEN GRADUALLY
DECREASE BY FRIDAY NIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 10 TO 20 INCHES WILL
BE POSSIBLE.

* WINDS/VISIBILITY...NORTHEAST 10 TO 20 MPH. VISIBILITIES WILL BE
POOR AT TIMES IN AREAS OF HEAVIER SNOWFALL AND BLOWING SNOW.


* IMPACTS...SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MAY MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT LATER
TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING.
