US 285 Resurfacing Project
Week of May 5, 2019
Beginning Monday morning, May 6 there will be daytime lane restrictions on southbound US 285 south of Fairplay for milling edge line and setting temporary barrier.

Daytime Lane Restrictions of Southbound US 285

Monday, May 6 to Thursday, May 9, 2019 - sunrise to sunset each day
Friday, May 10, 2019 - sunrise to 12 noon

Southbound lane restriction at US 285 between approximate milepost 174.98 - 178.02.

Lane closure will be one mile long and be moved as the operation progresses.

Traffic Impacts

• Motorists can expect flagger operations with north and southbound one-lane alternating traffic
• 15-minute delays and a 40 mile per hour speed limit reduction.
• Construction will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Thursday, and sunrise to Noon, Friday.

Alternative routes are suggested.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has initiated a 20-mile resurfacing and 3-mile widening (passing lanes) project located north and south of Fairplay, Colo. designed to improve safety and ride quality. The project includes 3-miles of passing lanes in each direction just south of Fairplay. It also includes culvert extensions, surface improvements and guardrail updates.

US 285 Resurfacing & New Passing Lanes Near Fairplay

Crews will resurface and improve the ride quality of a 20-mile segment of US 285 north and south of Fairplay in Park County. Other work includes:

• widening three miles of the highway, in both directions, to accommodate passing lanes in an area prone to crashes;
• extending culverts to address drainage; and
• updating guardrail to meet new 31-inch standards.

Work will broken into two segments:

• mile points (MP) 170 to 182
• MP 183 to 191

The passing lanes will be added south of Fairplay, from MP 175 to 178.

Schedule

• Estimated construction timeline: spring through November 2019
• Work hours: Daylight hours, Monday through Thursday, and sunrise to noon on Friday, with possible weekend work
• All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
