EFR is so thankful for all the generous offers and donations during the Elephant Butte Fire. We have been overwhelmed!
We are suggesting instead of cookies, water and food, you can help us by helping yourself and your neighborhoods with the following three ideas:
1. Sign up for CodeRed to get those emergency alert calls for evacuation. The link is on the homepage of Jefferson County. The Clear Creek County CodeRed link is on their sheriff's department website.
2. Register for Community Connect so we can preplan if we have to come to your house. This lets us know there is someone in the house that needs our help, that pets are there, where electrical, water, and gas shutoffs are located. The link to this is under Take Charge of Your Safety in the posts on the homepage.

or

3. Harden and Mitigate your own property to give us a fighting chance to defend against a wildfire. Work with your neighbors or HOA to start a new CWPIP group or schedule days for the fuels crew to come chip the neighborhood. The best link for this would be

Final Elephant Butte Fire Update
Though the evacuation orders lifted, there are still some soft road closures that only residents can access. The Jefferson County Type 3 Incident Management Team will be transitioning the management of the incident back to Evergreen Fire tentatively tomorrow evening.
There are no more aviation assets being used; ongoing suppression and mop up is being handled by hand crews, modules and a couple local engines. The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, in conjunction with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, has a team on scene actively investigating the cause. Rehab will take place by fire resources and the long term rehabilitation efforts will be management by Denver Mountain Parks.
The fire is at 65% containment.
This will be our last update until a cause is determined or there is a significant status change. This video
was taken yesterday.

#ElephantButteFire is 75% contained. Our EFR firefighters & great partners at Arapaho, Roosevelt & Pikes San Isabel National Forests @usfsarp plus Pawnee National Grassland & many other agencies have worked extremely hard in the steep & rocky burn area. Work continues for a few more days so please watch for firefighters & trucks on the roads.
REOPEN: Elk Meadow & Hiwan Heritage Parks reopen. Alderfer/Three Sisters Park remains closed while firefighters continue to contain the fire & put out hot spots. Please avoid the park & respect closures for yours & first responders safety.
EFR squads patrolled and monitored the #ElephantButteFire today. NOTE: You may see smoking stumps in the interior/black of the fire. Don’t be alarmed as it is normal and will occur for several days. But if you see flames or a smoke column? Call 911 and EFR will check it out!
As of July 17th: The #ElephantButteFire is 92% contained.
REOPEN: Alderfer/Three Sisters Park has reopened following the nearby #ElephantButteFire. The burn area remains closed indefinitely while recovery efforts continue. Thanks to all first responders!
Evergreen Fire/Rescue (EFR) and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) gave an update today that the Elephant Butte Fire is still under investigation.
“We are still investigating the cause of the fire. We have been able to identify an area where the fire started and have been able to rule out natural causes,” stated Mike Weege, Chief of Evergreen/Fire Rescue. “Wildfires are extremely complex to review and difficult to investigate. We are working with Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to continue to conduct interviews.”
The Elephant Butte Fire started on July 13 at approximately 3pm consuming 54 acres; no homes were lost; and no injuries were reported. EFR is grateful for all the community members and businesses support along with the neighboring fire, sheriffs, county and state agencies participation during the Elephant Butte Fire.
