It better be more than 100 years. But think of the CO2 that won't be going into the atmosphere. :woo hoo:

Solar project

County Attorney Lee Phillips presented the board with a letter of intent to Louisville, Colo.-based Bella Energy regarding a solar-power project. Phillips informed the board that the letter did not represent a binding legal agreement. The letter pertains to plans to construct a solar energy system to be located near the Park County Jail. The system would produce 398.323 kilowatts of energy, and its overall cost is projected at $1.5 million.

The system would be paid for with a 13-year lease, after which the system would belong entirely to the county. The commissioners have made a conservative estimation that the system would save the county, and therefore the taxpayers, $14,000 per year. The estimate is based on the assumption that energy costs will continue to increase 5 percent per year. One of the boons of the system being considered is the fact that excess energy produced can be sold to Xcel Energy.

Chairman Dick Hodges said there is also a "secondary savings."

"The equipment is expected to outlast the term," Hodges said. So at the end of the lease agreement ongoing expenses would end while the solar system and the energy produced would belong to the taxpayers and add to their savings. The commissioners voted unanimously to approve the letter of intent.
