Yeah - I agree the questions were kinda goofy...(wouldn't want to choose Paris or Martha but I'd go with Martha thinking I would at least have a decent meal!) but it's been a fun thread!

Yeah, but Martha seems like an overbearing, arrogant, bossy b**** to me, so I'd rather have some entertainment, and learn all about fashion and gossip on celebrities  while waiting for rescue, and can pretty much fend for myself survival-wise without needing Martha's help (I think - she 's got some mad skills!).

So what would be a good gun for a beginner?

First determine the main purpose. If its just fun, plinking and such, a .22lr revolver or semi-auto would be great. If its also for self defense, step up to a .38spl. or 9mm, cheapest centerfire ammo. Find a gun that fits your hand, afterall the biggest part of handgun is hand.

Here was my thought - can I have my gun if I'm stranded on an island with either of them? Though I did pick Martha cause she cam make useful stuff out of pretty much anything - good skill on a deserted island.

Sorry, I'm in favor of open carry. In those places with open carry, crime rates are lower, the number of shootings are lower, and people are politer.

Thanks Heartless, I'll keep that in mind (right now, it's just for fun, planning on joining my kids at Taekwondo for self-defense). Can you rent a gun at a shooting range or do you have to bring your own?

LH - LMAO! That's a very good point, for either choice!
(And love the Heinlein quote!)

Depends on the range, SC. Look some up and call ahead; a lot only provide a safe area for you to target shoot and you must bring your own guns and ammo.

Guns are like spouses. You don't rent them.

SC....whatever kind of gun you get....most important is to become comfortable with it, know how to use it, and make sure you are willing to use it. I was lucky, when I got my 38 a friend hooked me up with the trainer for the Lakewood police...and he really put me through a rigorous training program....now my son-in-law who is a police officer makes sure I keep my skills up. I really miss using my bow (rotator cuff problems nixed that activity) target shooting with a gun just isn't the same intensity as a bow. At least for me. I got the gun because standing in the living room with a bow pointed at an intruder just didn't seem as effective.....then again, maybe it would be. I kinda like the idea of the headlines.....lil ol' lady shoots intruder with a bow and arrow.
