Today marks the 150th anniversary the first shot was fired at Ft. Sumter that began the Civil War.

With the lines that have been drawn in the sand in our country (some reflected here on this forum at times) I wonder if we'll repeat history?

And if we do, I wonder what the first shot would be, figuratively speaking.

Yes, we will because we as humans NEVER learn (or are not taught) a damn thing from/about history!
Make my words, something big will happen between the 14-16 of May, will not be here but will effect U.S.
WAKE-UP, an read your history leftist & RIGHT-Thinkers!

(EDITED: Hint it's NOT! Not Nylon Stockings
15th May 1940 : Nylon stockings from DuPont went on general sale for the first time in the United States. Nor is it in the US!)

I could see another American Civil War happening. Part of it could be between states rights and creeping federalism, like the current red and blue schism in this land.
Irony? When countries go onto a war footing, federalism must gain more power to win.
So while Jeff Davis was elected to protect states and the individual property rights of citizens, but the end of the war, universal conscription had been introduced and slaves/personal property were seized to build fortifications.
And Lincoln also abused the Constitution in many ways to win the war.

I don't think we face another civil war. 150 years ago most folks associated themselves more with their state than with their nation. Now with increased mobility and the homogenation brought with the internet and a national media we feel little or no allegiance to our states. Additionally we have no local militias to fight a war with. The federal government holds control of tje military machine.

Local militias? The Confederate forces were formed out of state militias, like the local National Guard. As Qadaffi found out, just because you have a military, doesn't mean it is under your actual control.
The firing on Fort Sumter was a battle to take over federal facilities like Peterson Air Force base or Cheyenne Mountain going to the rebels.

The fact that our guard units were federalized and deployed answers that I believe. Also civilians and military were armed similarly. What chance would the fine citizens of Colorado Springs have against the armed might of Peterson or Fort Carson? Also what philosophy so unites one region against the other as to allow for such a movement? It's a different world today. We are a different people. My answer to the question is a simple no. This history thankfully will not be repeated. We're too old, too successful and too wealthy for such a foolish endeavor.

Sorry guys. Those of you who wear red or blue helmets are in the minority. Most of our helmets are varying shades of purple. You seem to want a repeat. What's up with that? Anyone with a passing aquaintance with the anquish of the civil war would run far and fast in the other direction.
