I think this may be the trigger...economic meltdown. Gas and food shortages could lead to civil war.


There is one theory that all wars are triggered for economic reasons. The genocide in Rwanda? Supposedly because the country just had too many people and not enough arable farmland so that people could eat. If you kill the other ethnicity, you can take their farms and there is more food for everyone.

Pearl Harbor? The Japanese were reacting to the oil embargo America put them under. (What a concept, at one time the US was a huge oil exporter and embargo'd other countries.)
