So what do you think about more toll roads in Colorado?

I don't like them at all. I'd rather pay more in gas taxes and keep the roads free.

Ever drive in Chicago?

How about some toll booths on 285, only during tourist season! :)

Jefferson Parkway Public Highway Authority officials said today they are talking to the Madrid-based construction firm Isolux Corsán about financing, designing, building and operating the 10-mile toll road in Jefferson County.

I hate toll roads too. Just seems much less efficient that paying at the pump. My wife who grew up in Jersey loves toll roads, thinks they are kept up better. If a private company owns the road, they have a stake in doing a good job maintaining it. Wheras too often goverment takes the lowest bid and doesn't mind doing it all over 5 years later.

SS109, Agreed, I pay enough taxes, already let the government spend it the way it SHOULD be spent!
(and please refer to toll ways as TAX ways, that's the truth),

Toll roads are used to generate revenues. Repair and upkeep is just a necessary expense to keep people using the toll road. The ultimate goal is to collect more money than is spent on maintanence.

Toll is closely akin to Troll.

I thought our Bridge and Road "fee" that we got hammered with by Ritter was going to eliminate the need for toll roads.

Seems everyone is out for our money these days.

I drove in northern Illinois frequently in the 70's and 80's. Every toll booth on I-90 was 40 cents, and there was about 5 or 6 of them between Rockford and O'Hare. I don't suppose it's still 40 cents is it?

I have no problems with toll roads if it is the only way to build a much needed artery. I do have a problem with bringing in a foreign entity to build it and run it for profit. It sounds like a stupid idea to me.

Toll Roads are un-American.

We already pay for roads through our taxes. The money they collect is supposed to maintain the roads we already have- and build new roads as they become necessary.

That's what the tax is supposed to provide us- and yes- Ritter tripled our vehicle registration fees and added penalties that never existed before to make up for the fact that our road tax money was being diverted to other causes.

I don't like paying for stuff twice- use the damn road tax to maintain and build roads- and quit trying to talk us into other revenue sources for stuff we already paid for.

This is what government has been doing to us for 10 years now- charging more and delivering less. If a private company charged you for somthing, did not deliver - and wanted you to pay again for the same service- they would call it fraud - and the perpetrator would be arrested.

Mark my words wait until you get that first tax bill, for all the miles you drive... Keep loving your On-Star, & GPS...
ON the brighter side, than there will be NO TAX Highways.

Kind of surprised to see so many "righties" being against toll roads. The conservative position is usually that whomever benefits from something directly should be the one paying for it, as opposed to spreading out the cost to everyone whether they benefit or not. Interesting.

One or the other - but what we have now - is both.

I'm ok with toll roads if they remove the tax from gasoline.

We pay 43.4 cents tax for every gallon of gas consumed in Colorado. All of that money is supposed to be building and maintaining our roads.

Take away the 43.4 cents and I'll be ok with toll roads- just dont ask me to double pay for what I'm already paying for.
