Toll roads

If a toll is used by a private company that built the toll-road then it's called a "fee-for-service", and that's "capitalism" and "free enterprise" at work...

You don't want to pay the toll? Don't drive on their road... Nobody will force you to do it... Or pay for it. Don't you get it?

Lots of roads in CO were built as toll roads- But this was before they collected gasoline taxes. The road up Lookout Mountain was originally a toll road- owned by a private company. The Boulder turnpike was built as a toll road- once the construction cost was paid off the tolls were removed.

Today is a different world- once a toll road- a road is likely to stay that way.

I don't have any problem with a private company building a road and then charging a toll to use it. The proposed toll road this topic is talking about would be the completion of C470 - and that road has been paid with the gas taxes they collect from us every time we buy gas.

See- they got away with tolls on E-470, so now they think they can divert money away from C470 and use it on other things and charge us double.

My opinion isn't going to change the outcome here- but I'm telling you it's another rip off they are trying to get away with.

If I sold you a car for 1000 bucks and right after you give me the thousand bucks I come back to you and inform you that you'll have to pay me another thousand bucks - or the car wont have tires or an engine- you'd be pissed.

That's what their telling us here on the C470 thing.

Anyway- I avoid toll roads. I have never used e470 and I'll drive 150 miles out of my way to avoid the toll roads in Kansas City.

That's just me.

I don't drive on E-470... I don't wish to pay the tolls... I can get to where I want without using it... Nobody is forcing me to drive on E-470.

The DFW Turnpike between Dallas & Fort Worth used to be a toll-road...until they paid it off. They removed the toll booths, and now it's "free", but the upkeep and improvements come out of the Texas Highway Funds....

You don't like the toll road that may be built to finish C-470?... Don't drive on it.

But southerners are different. They actually do remove tolls from roads after they are paid for. These were built by the state governments.

Private toll roads? Quite rare.
