Editor's note: Tune in to "AC360°" on Tuesday beginning at 10 p.m. ET to see the remainder of Gary Tuchman's investigation into President Barack Obama's birthplace.

(CNN) -- Was Barack Obama really born in America?
A new CNN investigation reveals what most analysts have been saying since the "birther" controversy erupted during the 2008 presidential campaign: Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961. Period.

While the president has made light of the controversy, the question remains political red meat for some of his critics. A recent CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll showed that nearly 75% of Americans believe Obama was definitely or probably born in the United States. More than four in 10 Republicans, however, believe he probably or definitely was not born in America.

Yeah, here we go......... 3 2 1

"More than four in 10 Republicans" sounds a lot less than "more than 40 percent of Republicans." That's very different from the 75% of Americans who believe he was born in the United States and shows how far away from the mainstream the Republican Party has moved on this issue.

Shock Poll: Only 38% Say Obama ‘Definitely’ Born in USA, Though Trump initially got attention by expressing doubts whether Obama was born in the USA, that issue is not driving his support. Among those who say they definitely or might vote for Trump, only about a third question whether the president was born in the USA.

Support from the “birthers” is stronger for Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney. The issue has persisted even though Hawaii has released an official Certificate of Live Birth showing Obama was born there, a fact confirmed in non-partisan investigations by FactCheck.org and others.

Still, in the USA TODAY poll, only 38% of Americans say Obama definitely was born in the USA, and 18% say he probably was. Fifteen percent say he probably was born in another country, and 9% say he definitely was born elsewhere.

It does? Are you math challenged? rofllol

Sorry, I could not resist that but don't feel like the lone ranger. There was an infomercial on the radio that promised infinite cash flow. When I heard it, I always wanted to pull over call and ask him the same thing.

At this point you could have actual footage of Obamas birth, the sworn testimony of all those present and the birthers still wouldn't believe it. It's entered the same category as those who insist the moon landing was faked, that Bush engineered 911 and that the Templars are still directing world affairs.

Thanks netdude......that was just too funny, and also sad. Chickaree is dead on......some people will never be convinced no matter what facts are presented. The fact that one of those people may run for president is truly scary......what state was Trump born in again?

I don't doubt one bit he was born in America. I do think there is something on his actual birth certificate that would somehow embarrass him though....

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!
