Why the hell are you being such an ass Nmysys? Good grief. Talk about Jekel and Hide. In person you are so nice. What gives. Don't listen to them LJ. Stupid, mean people. Guess I had some people wrong or gave them too much credit.

With what would you replace the "I"s in his speech? He was explaining to the American people what had happened and why....the final decision was his and he had to tell the people how and why he came to the decision to do this....he IS commander in Chief, much as many of you hate that idea.
I agree....a lot of this nitpicking, like about how many "I"s are in his speech, is nothing more than sour grapes.

The whole we and I thing is something that stems from character, meaning giving credit where credit is due and taking responsibility when you need to in the same way. It is my understanding that Obama was ready to take the full blame if the mission failed. I think both taking full credit for the operation and willing to take full responsibility were it to fail are wrong. Had failure been met, there is no reason for him to absolve those who failed of their responsibility. Likewise, I think it is always gracious of a leader, manager or colleague to acknowledge the contributions of others through the use of we or mention of the person who actually deserved the credit. He can take full responsibility for giving the go ahead, perhaps for choosing one line of action over another, but the execution of the plan belongs to the SEALS not Obama. By saying I did this, Obama loses me BIG time. I'm well aware it is a political practice to take credit like this. The fact remains, he would make better political hay by freely sharing and insisting on giving credit to those who were so instrumental in this effort.

There is a huge difference between demanding respect and commanding respect. Using "I" as opposed to "we" tells quite a bit of a person.
