But you are right in that he's not as clean as he campaigned that he'd be - his record on transparency sucks, among other things. Many who voted for him have become disaffected by his actions and lack of follow-through on his professed convictions. He is certainly NOT our messiah.
We finally agree on something SC. Just seeing that you had posted I was getting ready to type TLDR but it wasn't necessary.

In case you hadn't noticed recently, I don't have time to make big long posts. Or I'm doing it late at night after catching up on the days' activity and don't have the energy (have you seen the time-stamp of my posts?).
And why can't we agree on this statement from another thread?
SC wrote: I want transparency and accountability, both of the CIA, and of our government, which is the point of the inquiry. How is it that we wouldn't agree on that?
It's an easy line to cross, by those in power, to go from torturing captured terrorists to detaining and interrogating suspected US citizens - checks and balances, and accountability of those in charge, are crucial to maintain freedoms. Why am I, the liberal who supposedly blindly believes in big government doing everything for us, the one arguing that we need to hold them up to scrutiny and document what they are doing?
And I'd bet you that many other liberals would say the same thing, but when we just keep getting put in a box, under assumptions of what we support or don't, it gets really old. As does the name-calling (and no, I'm not just singling you out here), and cracks at the length of my posts - which you hadn't even noticed have been shorter than usual. Can we please just have a good debate on this?

For the pres that campaigned on transparency. He has not been acting like it. The american people have a right to look at a BC of the president and it could have been put to rest years ago. He most likely waited (like a good politician does) until he could use it at some point to make someone look stupid.
And it is amazing that he made sure that pictures of himself watching the Bin Laden thing got released. He just is exactly like the rest of them. And I don't see any change. I am not saying it is wrong necessarily but I am saying he is not who he professed to be.
But he did. He released the official short-form document long ago, the one that the State of HI recognizes as legit. This nonsense with the long-form is a waste of time and a distraction from the more pressing issues facing us today.

He is a very slick politician and every bit as much like the rest of them. Anything for a little public exposure in a positive setting. This whole BC matter needs to die. It's over. I do believe, Obama miscalculated in not responding more quickly and letting the matter take on a life of its own. Sure it's a distraction, but he needs to take some responsibility for letting it play out as long as he did.

Honestly, SC? I think a lot of this comes from the unwillingness of some to discuss the issues raised on their merits. It's so much easier just to used canned stereotypes with canned talking points to try to make the poster look ridiculous than it is to actually think about what they've said and respond to it instead of to a preconceived notion.
I know - I consider it my civic duty to combat those dreadful actions and get everyone posting long, thoughtful, deep, insightful, respectful debates and responses here in the Courthouse! It's a sacrifice but a cause I deeply hold - I will not rest! :eatingsmilies: :bodybuilding: Then we can go to the Ring and blow off steam! :woo hoo: Did you see my 100 Best Movie Insults post down there? It might come in handy... :Whistle lol

There are brief moments when it has happened. It's a huge challenge and I'll try to give you a helping hand. I see AV will do her part too.
I absolutely loved that thread about voter qualifications with you two going back and forth - it rocked! More of that please!

Dude you are too generous. I will go with Sturgeon.
"Sturgeon's Revelation, commonly referred to as Sturgeon's Law, is an adage derived from quotations by Theodore Sturgeon, an American science fiction author. While Sturgeon coined another adage that he termed "Sturgeon's Law", it is his "Revelation" that is usually referred to by that term. Commonly cited as "ninety percent of everything is crud" or "ninety percent of everything is crap", the phrase was derived from Sturgeon's observation that while science fiction was often derided for its low quality by critics, it could be noted that the majority of examples of works in other fields could equally be seen to be of low quality and that science fiction was thus no different in that regard to other art."
