Why should we all have guns ... and know how to use them? Take a look at Syria. The citizens have no guns, but government thugs do. The citizens cannot defend themselves. Snipers are killing innocent protesters, including Children!
Look at Venezuela where Chavez and his minions are dictating new Constitutional 'guarentees' that will keep him in office as long as the Castros(?) have held power. The only people that have guns in Venezuela are the government and their sponsored thugs (and military). Even FARC in Columbia now operates out of Venezuela. The common person on the street if they do have a a gun, will, if caught, spend many a year in government housing.
IMO the need for guns is not just for protection against criminals, but against a government that becomes or that is corrupt and that is also more concerned in staying in power than being responsible to the people. If the government knows that its citizenry is armed it will think twice before they try and confiscate the rights that the citizens enjoy. Just my thoughts.

These days I worry about the gov't 'way more than thugs. Thugs are generally cowards. The gov't is arrogant.
I'm not being anti-gun, but while I can see citizens with guns maybe working in a 3rd world country against their military, I don't see what good it would do here. I mean if our government were to put the full force of our military against us citizens, our guns in comparison would be no more than pea shooters. I think those with guns would just be a minor nuisance. And if by chance more than a nuisance, the Predator drone over head will take care of it.

You are wrong oh grasshopper, you need to watch defense tv.
Last year there were more hunters in 1 state than all the military combined.
Most US military will not take up arms against there own.
