BP comment about 'small people' causes anger

BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg told reporters in Washington: "I hear comments sometimes that large oil companies are greedy companies or don't care, but that is not the case with BP. We care about the small people."

Not the most sensible or most sensitive thing to say. Reminded me of when Leona Helmsley said, "Only the little people pay taxes".

Yeah, and he won't be given a pass for misspeaking by anyone either. Had those words emerged from the mouth of a Democrat, the immediate spin would be that they meant to say small business people.........

I'm sure the BP officials are driving their PR people absolutely nuts!

However, I don't think top officials are generally chosen because of their PR abilities. In BP's case, they certainly were not!

Us "small people" really care about BP execs too. $20 billion worth of caring.

And once gas goes back to over $4/gallon, we'll care even more! :VeryScared:

I think he apologized, and english is his second language. It was an innocent poor translation of words. But it sure didn't come across very well.
