...............................""The federal government is again offering money it does not have to entice a state (Iowa) to spend money that it does not have on something it does not need. The state of Iowa is being asked to provide funds to match federal funding for a so-called "high speed rail" line from Chicago to Iowa City. The new rail line would simply duplicate service that is already available (Megabus).
Perhaps most surprisingly, the luxury buses make the trip faster than the so-called high speed rail line, at 3:50 hours. "................

O well....
I don't fear terrorist, I don't fear, all the problems we face todat, I fear THAT, (since WE do not learn from the past), If the feds, keep up with this BLACKMAIL of the states, WE will ONCE again see this and hear this:
[center:su5g9ztp]To Arms! To Arms!
[/center:su5g9ztp] [center:su5g9ztp]WILLIAM F. OTTEN[/center:su5g9ztp]
[center:su5g9ztp]To arms! to arms! ye Sons of the North!
Rally under the Flag of the Union;
Protect and defend her, for ever she’s worth,
To be held next our free Constitution;
Let us go where the Flag of our Country calls,
Who stands by the Union is a Martyr if he falls!
Let us go where the Flag of our Country calls,
Who stands by the Union is a Martyr if he falls!
To arms! To arms! unsheathe the sword!
For our glorious Flag is insulted!
Be true to the Union
And strengthen the cord,
Of the Bond that from Freedom resulted.
It was won by our Fathers mid struggles and blood!
Keep the Flag of the Union as a most sacred good!
It was won by our Fathers with struggles and blood!
Keep the Flag of our Union as a most sacred good!
To arms! to arms! turn backward the tide,
Of the war, that is threat’ning our homes
That born in treason and foster’d by pride,
Points its sword at our Capitols domes
Hark! the Stars and the Stripes speak of glory of yore!
Let us stand by that Banner or breathe never more!
Hark! the Stars and the Stripes speak of glory of yore!
Let us stand by that Banner or breathe never more![/center:su5g9ztp]
Interesting that you would quote that in this context. That was a rallying cry for the Union prior to the civil war. The Civil War consolidated power around a central government in Washington. Sounds to me like you should be quoting rallying cries from the Confederacy instead.

"To Arms! To Arms!" (1861)

You're right, just glanced at the poster, but read the poem. The poem is about preserving the union rather than state's rights and that's what caught my eye.
I'm curious...what do you all think would have happened to the interstate highway system if states rights had trumped the federal gov't? Not every state was on board with that idea.

They probably would have routed the system through every little corrupt backwoods area where the local big shot had influence. or paid the locals off. They would have made a bundle and we still would be living with a crap system.
