It seems like it's time for a formal investigation to get to the bottom of this.

Justices Have Been Forced to Resign for Doing What Clarence Thomas Has Done
Monday 20 June 2011
by: Ian Millhiser, ThinkProgress

Justice Clarence Thomas is an ethics problem in a black robe. Just eight months after ThinkProgress broke the story of Thomas’ attendance at a Koch-sponsored political fundraiser, we learn that Thomas doesn’t just do unethical favors for wealthy right-wing donors — they also do expensive favors for him.

Leading conservative donor Harlan Crow, whose company often litigates in federal court, donated $500,000 to allow Thomas’s wife to start a Tea Party group and he once gave Thomas a $19,000 Bible that belonged to Frederick Douglass. The American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank which frequently files briefs in Thomas’ Court, also gave Thomas a $15,000 gift.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because America has seen this movie before. Indeed, the Thomas scandal is little more than a remake of the forty year-old gifting scandal that brought down Justice Abe Fortas. Like Thomas, Fortas liked to associate with wealthy individuals with potential business before his Court. And like Thomas, Fortas took inappropriate gifts from his wealthy benefactors.

Fortas’ actions were legal, and he eventually returned the money after Wolfson was convicted of securities violations and recused himself from Wolfson’s case, but the damage to Fortas — and the potential harm to the Supreme Court’s reputation — were too great. Fortas resigned in disgrace.

It is difficult to distinguish Fortas’ scandal from Thomas’. Like Fortas, Thomas accepted several very valuable gifts from parties who are frequently interested in the outcome of federal court cases. One of Thomas’ benefactors has even filed briefs in his Court since giving Thomas a $15,000 gift, and Thomas has not recused himself from each of these cases.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

The only problem is Thomas is not smart enough, or ethical enough, to understand the concept of "disgrace."

wiener still hasn't resigned, and Judge Clarence Thomas was indivacted, when the chick said it was all a lie...

EDIT: I stand corrected; "The debate over who was telling the truth continues. Clarence Thomas wrote an autobiography addressing Anita Hill's allegations, and she also wrote an autobiography addressing her experience in the hearings.[73]

Has Weiner REALLY Resigned? Nope
After days of speculation, giggles and non-stop media hype, Rep. Anthony Weiner finally announced his resignation last Thursday. While many Americans likely assumed that his departure from Congress would be immediate, the embattled politician has yet to officially vacate his position.

The New York Post reports that Weiner still needs to send an official resignation letter to House Speaker John Boehner that announces when, exactly, he plans to stop representing his Brooklyn and Queens constituents. Plus, even after he vacates Capitol Hill, his Congressional offices will still remain open and functional:

Even after [he sends his letter], his staff will stay on, and his offices — in the Capitol and New York — will be run by the House clerk, officials said. “Our offices will be open and fully staffed on Monday,” Dave Arnold, who has served as Weiner’s congressional spokesman, said yesterday.

Interestingly, so far no one is publicly pushing for Weiner to move quickly on his official resignation. But, with each day that passes, his pension fund continues to grow. So, Weiner’s failure to send the letter and make the move official actually has fiscal ramifications for American taxpayers.

Do you think he should be able to continue accumulating pension funds while Congress and the American public wait for him to make a move?
