Typical media article - long on BS, very short on actual facts.

Unless I missed it in the advertising, there is practically nothing there that tells us what the mayor actually has in mind, but I suspect it has very little to do with the headline.

Her plan is to pray and fast for three days.

It is kind of like praying that the Denver sports teams are going to get better. It doesn't work.

Fasting and prayer is something that many religions, including many native ones, use as a means of seeking inspiration and guidance CG. You've heard of the phrase Divine Providence, haven't you?

Yes... And I've heard about muttering incantations to a rock... They have an equal chance of success.

I dunno LJ, I'm willing to bet that George Washington and Thomas Jefferson would beg to differ with you on that given that both of them credited the formation of the nation to it.

Thank you for that blast-from-the-past... I'm sure you can provide us with more irrelevant information from the Federalist, Revolutionary, 18th/19th century than we'd ever want to know...

However, since there is no proof that Washington and Jefferson's incantations to their deity had any more effect than muttering over a rock, the jury is still out.

Have you ever heard the term 'retreat'?

Retreat (spiritual), a religious or spiritual term for time taken to reflect or meditate

Source

This MAY be what the mayor is referring to, and if so has been used by corporations and governmental bodies for years to provide an opportunity to concentrate on specific matters while excluding extraneous distractions, in order to come up with better solutions to the problems at hand.

Of course, to be PC now we have to scoff at anything that might be seen as having any kind of 'spiritual' connotation or foundation.

Prayin may be all that is left. I really am starting to believe that 1/2 the voters in the country have no freaking clue how bad of a fiscal problem this country is in. It is not going away without some serious pain and adjustment.
