Obama bestowed the Medal of Honor to Salvatore Giunta, who was the first living recipient of the Medal since the Vietnam War for actions that occurred in Afghanistan.
Yesterday he told the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, "I had the great honor of seeing some of you because a comrade of yours, Jared Monti, was the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn’t receiving it posthumously”.
Jared Monati was killed in Afghanistan.
If Obama cannot remember a soldier's name to whom he personally presented the Medal of Honor, it has to be inferred that the moment, ceremony, and the hero meant nothing to Obama. (The jerk!)
President Obama today apologized to the family of a Medal of Honor recipient whom he erroneously said was still alive.
On his Facebook page this evening, Monti's father, Paul, posted: "FYI- President Barack Obama telephoned me personally this afternoon to apologize for his error in his speech to the 10th mountain division re: Jared's medal ceremony. Apology accepted."
Obama is clueless about alot of things. This is just another example. So I quess it is ok to continually screw up and alway have to say sorry afterwards. Maybe he needs to get some new blood in there that has a clue.
I understand being the POTUS is a very busy occupation and I even understand how anyone can make an honest mistake when giving a public address. What this incident illustrates to me is that Mr. Obama is just going through the motions of handing out medals and citations, it seems to me that he has no comprehension of what it takes to be awarded or even nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor. I can see how Presidential Unit Citations might be routine and impersonal but when individuals are awarded medals like the CMH I think the very least the President of the United States should do is get to know a little about the recipient and if that individual is alive present it in person, if awarded posthumously present the medal to the next of kin in person. Recipients of the CHM should be memorable, it is clear to me that Mr. Obama has no idea what an honor it is to have the privilege to present this medal to military members, alive or dead.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

Obama's comment was not a scripted moment. It was an informal, off-the-cuff comment.
To meet a Medal of Honor winner would be a once in a lifetime event. The recipient has shown that he is an unusual, exceptional, rare individual. And if you were the person who was to present the medal to this person, the honor of giving the medal should stand out in your memory as very few events would.
Obama's flub reflects how little he cares about anyone other than himself.
I am very disappointed with the Obama butt kissers on these forums. Here is a chance for them to shine by defending their idol. (I have not even included his reference to the Marine "corpse".)
Maybe his apologists are too busy fantasizing about performing a Monica Lewinski goober gobbling session on Obama to be able to divine excuses for his total disregard for the heroes of our age.
