SCRAMBLE FOR YOUR PENNIES!
GOP Senator Orin Hatch: The 'Poor' Should Do More To Cut Nation's Debt

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) voted against beginning debate on a measure that would have the Senate declare the rich should share the pain of debt reduction Thursday, a day after arguing that it's the poor and middle class who need to do more.

"I hear how they're so caring for the poor and so forth," Hatch said in remarks on the Senate floor Wednesday, in reference to Democrats. "The poor need jobs! And they also need to share some of the responsibility."

Hatch's comments were aimed at a motion that passed 74 to 22 to start debating a non-binding resolution that says millionaires and billionaires should play a more meaningful role in reducing the nation's debt.

Dang!... "Compassionate Conservatism" at its finest! You can't make this kind of demagoguery up... Those bastards!! Presuming to make the rich lose a few tax loopholes on their jets; and hedge-fund-manager salaries; and farm-subsidies; etc... Let those "little people" at the bottom of the food chain pay more of their poverty-level incomes! Hrrrumph.... Leona Helmsley would be so proud....

America's poor have never paid less taxes, only right for them to pay what their hero JFK made them pay.
LJ,
What do you consider poor, at what income level do you think people should start paying income taxes? 100K? 25K? 50K? 5K?
Some kid living at home who makes only $5000 over the summer should probably be paying income taxes. Or do you think he should get a free pass?

I think this is a GREAT idea!

Bout time we start taxing these low wage earners- lets see- we could charge them the same as the corporate rate say 37%.

I think that's fair- time to start getting these folks in with the skin in the game, so they know what it's like to pay taxes.

I say the sooner the better- we need everybody on board to understand what the consequences of big government are.

Maybe then they will be against taxes when they get their earnings stolen from government.

An idea who's time has come.

Anyone who starts out from the premise that paying taxes is "money stolen by the government" is a moron, and the conversation must necessarily end right there...

Have a nice life.

Well LJ- you could tax the rich at 100% and still not come even close to collecting equal the amount that our government spends every year (assuming the rich will keep wanting to earn you money every year after people like yourself have looted it all).

Where you gonna get the rest of the money?

Come on LJ- even socialists know you can't keep spending more than you take in taxes!

Sheesh!

Bravo! About time someone said this. The poor should do more along with everyone else.

Demagoguery is this meaningless non-binding resolution. Must be a slow day in the Senate.

There should be medicaid premiums starting at $10/ month plus sliding scale and $5 copays at the Doc office. No free rides for anyone.

And a new alternative minimum tax for everyone. Maybe starting at 1% of gross income regardless of credits and deductions.

We need a few more people pulling this overloaded wagon, and a few less passengers.

Not a big fan of Hatch, or any other career idiot politician. But he is right this time.

It's high time to tax the 50+% of the people in this country who don't pay ANY federal taxes.

Get them in the game- we can't pay the credit card bills they helped run up by voting for lefties.

BTW- I'm not a big fan of Hatch either- he's a yellow bellied RINO- but even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

And considering how many billions more in tax receipts you would get if you take $1000 from 200 million people as opposed to 1 million from the 100 billionaires in the US.
Plus lower income people don't have lawyers and accountants to hide income with.
