What has happened to this country? Remember when kids had lemonade stands all the tim in the summer to raise money and it taught them that work makes money. It taught them responsibility too. Now they need permits and licenses and get shut down because the police don't know how it was made? Are you fricken kidding me?
Police in Georgia have shut down a lemonade stand run by three girls trying to save up for a trip to a water park, saying they didn't have a business license or the required permits.
Midway Police Chief Kelly Morningstar says police also didn't know how the lemonade was made, who made it or what was in it.
The girls had been operating for one day when Morningstar and another officer cruised by.
The girls needed a business license, peddler's permit and food permit to operate, even on residential property. The permits cost $50 a day or $180 per year.
$50 a day?? At 25-50 cents a glass, they will never make that! This country is becoming the hugest nanny nation in the world.
Virtually all of these silly sounding regulations have been pushed into law by some big business that doesn't want competition. It's not about "nanny-minded" people misguidedly trying to "protect" people from bad lemonade, it's about big money not wanting little guys crowding their territory.
Do some research into how much money and muscle huge agri-business conglomerates are putting into keeping small farmers and backyard growers from selling their own produce and you'll see what I mean.

I grew up on a farm in South Dakota. I have seen it first hand as our small town has gone from hundreds of small farmers to a handfull of large ones with a few trying to hang on. It is sad.
The end of the article metioned that the girls are now doing chore and yard work to make money now. Good for them, but I hope they have a license and are bonded and insured....otherwise won't they be engaged in illegal business too?
All kidding aside, it seems like a different country than when I was a kid. Activities like lemonade stands still stick in my mind as we did that often in Littleton back in the 60s. I can see if they were selling shellfish or pork sandwiches, but sugar, water, and citric acid?
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I know. You like to mock people. You are a Liberal and don't really care about bigger government and more government control. And as much as you claim it, you really have no heart for the little people. But it's OK, I'll still debate with you.
