And still Reid and the Dems refuse to bring it to the Senate. And Obama is refusing it without even looking at it. Bohner has already offered at one point raising revenue by closing loopholes to the tune of $800 billion dollars. So they compromised huge and Obama said no. Now today they came out with a 2 tier bill to cut spending by only $1 trillion. Because when they came up with a plan for $4 trillion and then $3 trillion, the Dems said it was too much. So they compromised again with a $1 trillion cut in spending and raising the debt ceiling and then the 2nd tier included revenue raising. Problem solved and all SS checks go out right? Whoops! Forgot who is in control of the Senate and White House. They said NO to that too! They are the party of NO! They won't even bring the bills to the floor for a vote because they are afraid they may pass and that is the last thing they want! Then they won't have anything to whine about and try and blame on the Republicans. But if people see that the R's are the ONLY party who has actually brought 3 bills to the table, and the D's are the party the keeps saying NO and won't even allow a vote, then this will be a fun election year!
The D's and Obama keep saying compromise. THEY HAVE!! And compromise with what? They haven't presented anything! It is all smoke and mirrors and lies and fears with them. (new slogan for obama) Smoke and Mirrors and lies and fears!
So HOW many times do they wnat the R's to keep compromising and getting shot down? 3 so far. They just want this past the election so Obama doesn't have to bring it up again. THAT is the sticking point and THAT is all this is about! Obama's re-election, not what is best for America!
Interesting spin on the sirtuation.....and that is what it is spin. So far the Republicans have said no to everything the Dems have offered, the Dems have compromised to the point of giving the Reps nearly everything they want and still the Reps dig in their heels and say.....give us everything we want or we will not vote to raise the debt ceiling.......yeah, that's real compromise. Both the President and the democratic leadership have tried to work with the Republicans, but as soon as they get an agreeable solution the tea party steps up and threatens the Republicans and they back off in fear. Yeah....that's compromise. When Boehner feels the heat from the tea party he walks out of the meetings, he has the backbone of a worm.
I sure hope Obama and the Dems hold their ground on the few things they feel are necessary....increased revenue, and SS and medicare are NOT part of the formula. If we go into default, I'm betting the American people will blame the Reps first.....as they have been acting like stubborn children through this whole process.
Here it is. Obama's only requirement. Save my ass and this has to extend past the election. In his own words! It is ALL about the election for him and American's come second!
The president said in his speech Friday evening that he would be willing to work on “any plans” that lawmakers brought him over the weekend. “The only bottom line that I have is that we have to extend this debt ceiling through the next election, into 2013,” President Obama said.
And here is Pelosi even saying the Two teir approach would work and she would consider it. SO even the far left is aggreeing with Bohner's compromise. But look at the last paragraph. Geitner is against it. WHO THE F*** CARES!! HE is not in congress and is not drawing up, voting on and passing the bills. He cheated on his taxes and has helped Obama run our economy into the ground. And the other who is against it? Obama! A total bipartisan bill and Obama is against it because it has to go past his election!
“My last offer is still out there. I've never taken my last offer off the table, and they never agreed to my last offer,” Boehner added. On the other hand, “It may be pretty hard to put humpty dumpty back together again.”
However, Boehner said he is an “optimist” when it comes to reaching a deal on the debt ceiling and believes it’s his job to find “as much common ground as we can” in order to reach an agreement.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) suggested Saturday night that Boehner’s two-vote approach was on the table.
"One option is to do something in two tiers," she said as she left the Capitol, "and I don’t think we can accomplish what we need to do in deficit reduction without revenues."
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner however showed little enthusiasm for a two-tiered vote, saying on Sunday it “makes no sense” to leave the threat of a default hovering before the next election.
Geithner is absolutely right....the two tiered approach is just a big cop out....if they can't get it done right now, what makes them think they can get it done right an a few months? I thought conservatives hated the idea of kicking problems down the road....yet here they are suggesting just that.
The solution is simple, accept the fact that the fiscally responsible members of the American public reject the idea of increased taxes. Smaller government needs less revenue to operate, a lower tax rate encourages businesses to hire, and more jobs means more tax payers are spending money in the commercial market and paying their taxes. Everyone wins. Those who can't work should continue to get their entitlements; those cheating the system are to be cut off and made to fend for themselves.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

why accept that if every poll has shown that the American public supports the removal of tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans?

No problem with that.....but we won't have smaller government overnight. The less revenue can be a goal for the future, but right now we have a huge hole to dig ourselves out of and every tool we have, including increased revenue should be used to accomplish that. Only then can we make gov't smaller RESPONSIBLY!
The problem I see with the Republican plans is they think they can reform the US government with one stroke of the pen, or hatchet if you will......our economy and our government are not that simplistic.......this has to be done with a long term plan that protects our citizens and our country from an economic collapse. I don't think the Republicans have any idea what the consequences of their plans are......for that matter the Democrats don't either. But they at least are willing to cut some, increase revenue some, and approach change in a more responsible manner.

OK, I will say this SLOWLY! The Dems haven't passed a budget in 830 plus days. Now they say it is down to the wire and WE as Americans are SICK and TIRED of this administration trying to PUSH through $Trillion dollar bills in a rush at the last minute without reading them! This gets us past this deadline and give them time to work out a bill THAT THEY ACTUALLY READ before, as Pelosi says 'finding out what is in it'. You libs make me sick! Sure just pass another few trillion! What's in it? Who cares right? No time to read it in less than a week but you want it passed? Are you clueless? THIS is what got us this debt in the first place! SO you seriously just want to push through another multi-trillion dollar bill without anyone knowing what is in it? Thank God teh Dems won't be in control much longer!
You want dictatorship? Move to another country! We don't want that here in America!

What part of Bohner and the Republicans offered $800 billion in revenue though closing loopholes don't you understand? Obama said NO! Not unless we pass trillions without reading it and it goes past my election.

What part of eliminating the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy don't YOU understand.....and the rest of your post is a lie. Why can't you post without telling outright lies?
