NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The job market strengthened in July, a welcome piece of good news that sharply contrasted other recent readings pointing toward an economic slowdown.

Employers added 117,000 jobs last month, well above the 46,000 jobs added in June, and easily topping the 75,000 gain predicted by economists surveyed by CNNMoney.

20615PrintWeak job reports for both May and June were revised higher, adding a combined 56,000 jobs for the year.

Of course, I am sure we are going to hear from The Viking that 250,000 of those 117,000 jobs were "created" by his hero Perry.

What does it matter who created them. There are obviously a lot of people out there who are much happier now that they have an opportunity to work. I'm one of those happier people.

Nice try, but I'm sure he'll show up on this thread at some point to try to argue they were either created single-handedly by Perry, or at least try to find a way to blame Obama for not being the "creator" of the jobs.

(I, too, am happy to hear this news and don't really give a hoot about the "politics" of the matter, just glad people are starting to find work.)

It matters because many on this board assign blame or give credit whenever bad news comes out about job growth. Do you really think that Viking is going to start a thread about the great news for jobs? Of course not and that's the purpose of AspenValley's post & comment.

That being said, I agree with you that this is good news for Americans.

Yes, I think Obama should give another speech pronouncing his remarkable 9.1% unemployment rate. Lets party!

But seriously, it is good news in the face of a double dip possibility (a very real one).

My wife and I were just talking last night about how soul draining it is being out of work.
Facing rejection all the time, and wondering how you are going to pay for things, etc.
We need 200K a month in new jobs to keep pace, but I can imagine how happy those 117,000 people are. Congrats to the newly employed!

Never quite thought of it like that, but I can attest to it being draining, stressful and challenging to everyone in the family. We were fortunate in that we had sufficient resources to survive, but in the end there was a lot of wondering, not just for the present, but the future. Yep, a opportunity to work is a cure for a lot of ills.

Who's cheering? It's called sarcasm...sorry you didn't get it.

I have 3 kids that I want to see enjoy the same America I did....I put my kid's future before any party (in fact I put pretty much anything before a political party). I just know THIS administration needs to be flushed asap...THEY FAILED!

just for the record. I do not believe that Obama created these jobs, certainly not mine.
