I think he is smart but the classic example of a good education, but no practical experience for his current position.
And I do think he does have trouble focusing when speaking with large groups, hence the teleprompter and how many mistakes he makes when he deviates from the script.
Really seems like a puppet, but I don't know who is pulling the strings. Corporations? The DNC?
Reminds me a lot of Bill Ritter. Just seemed out of his element.

"Socrates taught that wisdom begins in the recognition of how little we know. Mr. Obama is perpetually intent on telling us how much he knows"
That puts it pretty well. However, I don't think the President is stupid, but I have no doubt he is in over his head because he just hasn't had any experience in leadership. The fact that he never served in the military, never led a company, was never a mayor, never a governor - has become quite evident. It's unfortunate that at a time when this country deperately needs leadership, we have a President that is lacking the skills. I think the same could be said for much of the business world as well.
And it does sound like he is trying to learn as fast as he can, especially about foreign affairs and current military deployments, but maybe too little, too late?
Having grown up in a liberal household, and going to lefty schools, he probably was never really challenged about his economic and political beliefs like Clinton who went to lefty schools but grew up and served as governor in a red state.
One reason I like Romney is that he has served as governor in a liberal state and was constantly challenged by the other side. Toughens you up.
