Oh come on VL....they're teachers, they don't have REAL jobs. According to the conservatives we don't need teachers, they just ruin our kids and teach them how to be evil liberals.

My family and friends include many teachers. Your generalization is pure BS. But, of course, you know that.

Apparently you don't read the rants about teachers from your conservative friends here......

I admire teachers as much or more than most any other profession.....they do what they do under very stressful conditions (yep kids cause stress) and manage to give their heart and soul to their job. Sure they work at the school 9 months a year, and every school teacher I know has to either teach summer school or get a part time summer job to make a decent living. They are more educated than the average American who has a professional job, and continue their education throughout their career. So, when I see people trash the teachers, call them liberal tools, and portray them as money hungry leeches I get really, really mad.

Sorry jf1, if you didn't appreciate my sarcasm.

I haven't seen any rants about teachers...just about the teacher's union. You know, the one whose ex head said "When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of school children."

Well duh..Do you know what a union is? They are paid to represent their members. Like a lawyer represents their client. They represent who pays them and nobody else....What do you think a union is anyway? A church group or something, always doing whats right? They represent the teachers to get them higher wages and better working conditions...Period
Clueless

Exactly, so anyone that claims the teacher's union is there in part to help the children is either lying, or misinformed. BTW I hear that all the time from teachers that their union is working to help educate the children.

You think a teacher thats happy, secure and not over worked is not a better teacher? Union workers out produce their non union counterparts way above and beyond the addition compensation they recieve. Happy teachers means better education..Teachers are the engine

And unions are the boat anchor chained to the back bumper that prevents any real progress.

The Viking wrote: Stop Lying!!! No one ever called a teacher that!! We call the Unions that!! Nice try at a spin though. And I probably respect the actual teachers more than you do as you want that proffession to be controlled by unions.

And you stop calling me a liar......I don't use your tactics to make a point. There have been plenty of threads on this board about teachers, and some very unflattering stuff said about teachers....mostly because they happen to belong to a union........but I don't see you all going after police, or firefighters with that kind of anger. I don't have the time or inclination to go look for them all, but I pulled a few......disrespect for teachers does seem to be all on the conservative side, I didn't see any from the liberals, though there might have been some.

Whatever, I do not like to see teachers disrespected, I think they have a tough job and deserve not only the pay the receive, but the pensions and whatever perks they can get.

To those teachers who can't or won't do it- I say don't let the door knob hit ya on the way out!

The private sector job market is waiting for you all - Good Luck!

Oh.....and saying that it is the Unions you hate, not the teachers is splitting hairs at best. The teachers are union members. If you attack the union they voted for you are in turn attacking them.

One of the better provisions of the latest law in Wisconsin. Rather than presume that the teachers wish to retain the same union year after year, the union must be certified on a yearly basis to ensure that the teachers are in fact happy with the union that is currently representing them. When the union stops being of benefit to them and uses their dues money in ways they don't approve, they can either choose a new union or elect not to be represented by a union at all anymore. What a great way to ensure their freedom!
