I was surprised to see him drop out so soon. Winning the Iowa straw poll hardly ever determines the nominee. Maybe he just lost the fire, or was out of money.

We are going to run either Bachmann or Perry and we are going to hand the presidency back to probably the worst president in US history. Our failure to run someone more middle of the road is the same thing as voting for the re-election of President Obama. We will all be scratching our collective heads in late 2012 wondering HOW IN THE HELL that guy got re-elected. I can already see the writing on the wall.

In our head long run to secure our ideological needs we will forget the needs of our Nation and put the worst possible option back in charge. We can feel good about voting for our guy while we watch the wrong guy stay in office. I can't believe it but it's clear as day to me.

I have been wondering the very same thing......why would the Republicans want to move farther to the right when they should know they will lose the independents and don't have a chance to pick up Democratic votes like Reagan did. I think there are a lot of Democrats and Independents who are looking for a candidate they can vote for other than Obama. But when the choices are perceived as being right wing extremists they will hold their nose and vote again for Obama. He is the only moderate in the group. In spite of the fact that the tea party and many Republicans try to paint Obama as a liberal extremist, he has proven himself to be pretty middle of the road.. Romney seems to be the only Republican who can appeal to more liberal voters, but I don't think he will get the nomination because he is seen by the tea party as a moderate.

Maybe he saw a chance to bow out "gracefully". This is going to be a long hard expensive battle

Maybe the failure of running someone more middle of the road shows that your party is not in touch with what the majority of Americans want. There are several issues that polls have shown the majority of Americans agree with, yet the ideology of the conservatives runs against it because they are pandering to their far right base. By declaring that they will not compromise and painting President Obama as the anti-American Socialist Anti-Christ, they have painted themselves into a corner from which they cannot escape without looking like they are bending to Satan. When compromise is a dirty word, Bachmann said today that she will not compromise, then nothing gets done.

Wanting to be more in the middle means meeting the other side halfway. When Boehner said he got 98% of what he wanted in the latest deal, that is not meeting halfway. Coming together to solve a problem does not mean that you should expect the other side to completely give into your position. It's all BS political theater from all politicians and all about relelections than true governing and Americans eat the drama up from the 24/7/365 headline news media. They know people eat sensationalism up greedily, so they offer scary, doomsday stories and everyone takes them on as their own opinion while the networks rake in the money from the ads, because that is what they are there for.

Obama has painted himself as "anti-American Socialist Anti-Christ.

Compromising with the devil himself is not acceptable - you still end up in hell.

What is hell for you may be heaven to another.......contrary to your own opinion, you are not always right. You may speak for the far right fringe, but most of America falls somewhere in the middle, and it is the majority that will elect a president.
