Carter ran a Rose Garden campaign, essentially stayed at the White House instead of taking a bus around the country as an incumbent trying to get re-elected. I wonder if any President will ever use this strategy again.
The all-black bus is being called the Death Star by Fox pundits. lol It does look a little menacing.

Aside from getting re-elected, what is so hell fired important that Barry needs to pay a visit to the mid-west?! If he was serious about fixing the economy he'd be back in DC calling congress back in to session and meeting with the heads of industry in an honest attempt to generate some new jobs. It begs the question, why are the citizens paying for Barry to go on an early campaign tour on their money? Campaign all you want but do it on your own dime or with money actually voluntarily donated to the campaign.
I'm betting that the bus isn't going to be driven cross country when Obama is done campaigning in Illinois. I'm guessing it will get flown back to DC in a military transport. A C-17 might be big enough, but more likely a C-5. I just can't see them driving that thing from secure storage in DC cross country to where it will be used and then back every time.
Air Force One flew Obama to Minnesota and will be there in Illinois to pick him up and fly him back to Washington after his last campaign stop, so no money is really being saved in the operations of Air Force One. My guess would be that it still is flown to every city where the president is going in case he needs to get the heck out of Dodge quickly. The bus is probably an additional expense to that which is normally incurred. The presidential limo, the Secret Service vehicles - they are probably all along for the ride as they would be anytime the president travels.
And forget gasoline/E85 - you need diesel power to move that much mass and the fuel is less explosive than gasoline or ethanol is. I can see it being diesel/electric like a locomotive though. Can you imagine that bus doing a J-turn? That would be a sight to see! Wouldn't you love to be the person who got to do the security upgrade design. A couple of M2's front and rear - recessed track drive - composite armor like that found on the M1A2 Abrams - battering ram in the front to smash through roadblocks - maybe even a Hellfire or two for good measure. Someone got the opportunity of a lifetime designing something like that from the ground up.
I'm glad to see the addition of the buses to the fleet of Secret Service vehicles - they are long overdue in being added to the options available and I think they might actually be more secure and offer better protection to the president than an armored limo ever could. I'm actually a bit surprised that the cost per unit was as low as it was considering 'The Beast' is believed to have cost between $300 - $400K. It would be a bargain at twice the cost per unit if it keeps our president safe in a worst case scenario.
And now Obama is talking about generating new jobs while he rides around in a bus (or two, there is a red one and a black one) made in Canada. Gee, wouldn't it be a great idea to axe GM, Dodge, or Ford to build the buses instead and keep the money in the USA?
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

First....the Secret Service, not the president, ordered the bus from a company in Tennessee.......apparently the specifications they wanted on a bus that would be carrying not just this president but future presidents and other dignitaries were best met by a company in Canada that specializes in this type of bus. Is there even an American company that makes this kind of bus? Apparently Prevost, the Canadian company, is well known for these specialized busses.
Do we even know, or care, where Bachman's Bus, or The Tea Party Express bus, or other candidates busses were made?Would the conservatives care if this was a Republican's bus. And it may be if a Republican ever wins the White House.....will you all care then? You know the Secret Service is not liberal or conservative, they just try to protect whoever is president the best way they can with the best equipment they can get.
I don't care about the bus, I care about why he's on the bus when the "message" he wants to repeat ad nausium could be delivered for next to nothing while still being able to work hard when we need him to the most.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

There are 3 comapnies that make custom coaches and bullet proof ones here in the US that I personally know of, 1 in FL, IN, and TN. Heard of a few more here so they didn't have to go out of the country, but someone owed Prevost a favor.
