If there is no opportunities for recently laid off government employees in the free market, then it proves the uselessness and waste of what they were doing.

It's true though.
Many of those workers are worthless to a real economy- they will need to get jobs flippin burgers or whatever. But at least if they are flippin burgers- they are actually adding to the productivity of a nation instead of being a drag on it.
We would have much less demand for paper pushers with limited government. Laid off government employees is always a good thing for an economy in the short term, and especially in the long term.
Just ask Cuba where this year they are laying off 500,000 government employees who basically do nothing.
Castro's brother has told them all to jet jobs- or start their own businesses.

Higher unemployment from out-of-work government workers. Less regulations, more irregularities by companies no longer watched.
rofllol Please! You honestly think the increase in financial goverment regulation since Enron has actually cut down on irregularities? Solyandra, Bernie Madoff, the whole Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac debacle?
Face it, we spend more on goverment regulators who continue to be asleep at the switch or would rather be watching porn.
But back on topic. I don't think Obama is as bad off as people think. Negative poll numbers? His worst numbers are in blue states he wasn't expected to win anyway.
Irony? People concerned about the economy are dragging down his numbers, right? Actually Obama polls worse in good economy states like North Dakota.
People in bad economy states like California may decide they will get more benefits and unemployment extensions if Obama remains the head guy.

You don't see a pattern of redundancy and waste overall in government? I think much of the "watching" is a big waste in itself, depending on the industry. Any company that's been successful in the market for at least a few years has to watch itself with extreme scrutiny so it doesn't risk a bad reputation if a product is found to be dangerous or if some part of doing business somehow hurts society more than it helps. There are plenty of lawyers always ready to take down companies who tiptoe into the grey areas.
