Robert Parry, Editor for the Consortium News who helped uncover the Iran-Contra scandal, wrote in a June 3, 2009 Consortium News article titled "Ronald Reagan: Worst President Ever?":
"[T]here’s a growing realization that the starting point for many of the catastrophes confronting the United States today can be traced to Reagan’s presidency...
With his superficially sunny disposition - and a ruthless political strategy of exploiting white-male resentments - Reagan convinced millions of Americans that the threats they faced were: African-American welfare queens, Central American leftists, a rapidly expanding Evil Empire based in Moscow, and the do-good federal government...
Despite the grievous harm that Reagan’s presidency inflicted on the American Republic and the American people, it may take many more years before a historian has the guts to put this deformed era into a truthful perspective and rate Reagan where he belongs -- near the bottom of the presidential list."

It's a good thing....we won the cold war then. Thank you Mr. Reagan for tearing down that wall. rofllol rofllol .... too bad Obama is tearing up America.
Too bad we didn't have youtube....I would love to have seen Reagan actually tearing down that wall.
You're got YouTube now....I hope you enjoy watching Obama tear down America with your assistance. rofllol

Not everyone who lived through the 60s was a hippy - there were some very conservative, stuck int he 50s folk all over the place. In fact, most of the country was that way. But nice try with the revisionism.

In the 60s I wasn't even a teenager yet. In the 70s I became a Republican, and stayed one until your hero Reagan's second term, when I started to wise up to what was going on with him and got tired of not only seeing him try to employ voodoo economics, ignore the laws of physics when talking about "Star Wars" but also stir up an aggressive will to a warlike stance in this country. We're damned lucky he didn't provoke the USSR into a nuclear strike. Of course, the fact that he was suffering from Alzheimers was being hidden from us, but a lot of people starrted to realize how scary and dangerous it was to have someone in office who increasingly was giving cause to doubt his sound judgement.
Not everyone fell under his spell. And some of us actually remember the actual Reagan years, not just the romantiziced version of them served up by the revisionists.
By the way - it's a little ironic, maybe, but I was not a fan of Carter at the time he was in office but by the time I was doing graduate work in finance and economics in the late 80s I really began to see how unfairly his policies had been seen. For the most part, they were a lot sounder than he was given credit for.
I remember the Reagan years quite well and there are a few things that were very clear. He inherited unemployment rates in double digits, inflation in double digits, and interest rates as high as 22%. That changed pretty quickly. He also didn't bow down to any Middle Eastern Rulers.
Remember those days? He stood strong against those Soviets and we were the #1 Economy in the world, the best place in the world to live. Ahhh, the good old days.

I'm older than you, but that's exactly the same scenario that I went through. By his second term I wised up to what was going on, and I realized how scary and dangerous he was.
I have to laugh at the revisionism and beatification that goes on today. One thing I DON'T miss about the 80's is Reagan...

Hmmm, you might want to do a little more research into the ecoomics of the time to understand that those high interest rates were allowed on purpose during the Carter administration to bring inflation under control. I think that's called "fiscal responsibility". Those employment figures wouldn't have been looking too good without that policy, either.
And sorry, I was just not as impressed - then or now - with all the belligerent posturing. Nor was I impressed with the shenanigans regarding the hostage situation he was involved with. One of those hostages was a cousin of mine and to this day he detests Reagan for his role in that and was convinced he would have been home a lot sooner if not for him.
