Psychological addiction is not in question. You can develop a psychological addiction to anything. Marijuana is not addictive. On the other hand, oxycontin, hydrocodone, alcohol, and too many other thing to list, that don't disqualify you from owning a gun, are.
And, according to federal law, if you have developed an addiction, psychological or otherwise, to any substance classified as a controlled substance in federal law you are similarly disqualified from being able to purchase, transport or possess firearms and ammunition. Any use of marijuana, medical or otherwise, is an unlawful use of a controlled substance according to current federal law and as such anyone who uses that controlled substance can't be the recipient of a federally authorized firearms transfer by a federally licensed firearm dealer. That is the substance of this latest letter from Eric Holder's DoJ and the BATFE. In order to assure that a FFL licensed dealer doesn't violate federal law, they are required to ascertain whether or not you possess a medical marijuana card in Colorado. This will allow the CBI as well as the federal authorities to have access to the names contained in the Colorado registry for those who are in lawful possession of a medical marijuana card according to Colorado law.
If you are a holder of a medical marijuana card, you will be required to answer 'yes' to question 11.e on the current form or risk prosecution for lying on the application to purchase a firearm. If you answer 'yes' to question 11.e you will be denied the ability to purchase the gun from the federally licensed firearm dealer as well as prohibited from purchasing ammunition from them once they become aware that you hold a medical marijuana card issued by the State of Colorado.
Isn't consolidation of power in the federal government a wonderful thing?

Just as long as the drugs are man made chemicals approved by the government. If it grows in the ground and the drug companies can't profit from it, then it must be bad.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
[sarcasm font] Wow this law should take the guns out of the hands of all those smugglers and pushers and street corner thugs that smoke their own stuff. Thanks Feds. I feel alot safer now. [font]

The people with MMJ cards will be forced to either go without their medicine because of some preconceived notion instilled by "Reefer Madness" ages ago, or to be denied their rights under the second amendment. The federal government has been taking rights away gradually since the Civil War and now they are getting rather brazen about it. MJ is much cheaper and very easy to attain outside of the "system" and I suspect people who have a problem with this law will simply go that route. I have my card, so my wife is very well armed. lol
