AURORA - A man says he got much more than a large pizza when he called Papa John's for delivery - he got a visit from Aurora Police.
The man was smoking medical marijuana just before the pizza arrived on Friday evening. The delivery driver smelled the marijuana and called the cops. The Papa John's employee, who was not identified, was concerned because the customer's 9-year-old daughter was in the house.
Officers performed a child welfare check and left without filing any charges.
The man who ordered the pizza, Frederick Smith, contacted 9NEWS because he says he was targeted for doing something that's perfectly legal in Colorado.
"I wanted to be able to use medical marijuana and not feel harassed," Smith said.
Nobody that matters wrote: Smoking it around his daughter was stupid. Stupid should hurt.
Contact high anyone? He could have been arrested for exposing his daughter to MJ. He should have went for a walk around the neighborhood and a smoke. :jk2:

When I delivered a number of years ago in Conifer and then in Evergreen, I saw some bizarre behavior by customers. Much worse than smelling a little pot. Never entered my mind to call the cops on anyone. Maybe this driver got stiffed on a tip?

Of course this different. Smoking next to a child is not good but what is being discussed is being under the influence and watching a child. I just watched a really interesting 2 hour program on Prohibition. I think the thing that bothers me most about this stupid smoke in mirrors MM law is that it is a farce and there are no regulations and no information. I hate dog and pony shows.
Few have real facts on what is considered DUI with MM, or how it can affect you. Alcohol is completely different. I think what amazed me about prohibition was how it actually raised the price of alcohol and made corruption in law rampant. I think the Pizza guy was right to worry and you can always call law enforcement to ask what you should do.
I will always err on the side of caution when you are dealing with children.
I wonder how many calls to the authorities he's made after seeing someone drinking a beer in front of a child when he delivered a pizza? That's under the influence and watching a child.

Drunk dad will pass out on the couch right after pizza and give kid no supervision. Dad after smoking part of a joint, will eat all the pizza and will be supervising the kid up til 2:00 AM playing video games.
