I'm not positive, but I think many deputies who work this side of the district have their personal vehicles parked in Fairplay. The county vehicle is to be available for the next shift the peace officer patrols. The patrol vehicle may be the only vehicle available at the time.
This is speculation of my own, but I believe I may not be far off here. After all, Park County is a large one. One other thing...some people have only ONE vehicle! More money would be spent driving the patrol car back to Fairplay just for a peace officer to drive back to the district patrol area in a personal vehicle.
I'm willing to bet in some cases the usage saves money for the tax payers in Park County. We must have a little understanding before we decide to get all worked up on such matters.
