Don't Let Your Kids Watch Chaz Bono on DWST!

I advise parents to not allow their children to watch the episodes in which Chaz appears.
Here’s why: Many of the children who might be watching will be establishing a sense of self which includes, of course, a sexual/gender identity. Some will be girls becoming comfortable with dramatic changes in their bodies. Some will be boys coming to terms with integrating the dawn of manhood with exquisite feelings of vulnerability. Young viewers will include tomboyish girls and sensitive, less stereotypically “masculine” boys. They will also include children who have sustained the losses of loved ones and are wrestling with depression, perhaps wondering who they are absent their deceased mothers or fathers.
The last thing vulnerable children and adolescents need, as they wrestle with the normal process of establishing their identities, is to watch a captive crowd in a studio audience applaud on cue for someone whose search for an identity culminated with the removal of her breasts, the injection of steroids and, perhaps one day soon, the fashioning of a make-shift phallus to replace her vagina.
It is a toxic and unnecessary byproduct of the tragic celebration of transgender surgery that millions of young people who do watch "Dancing with the Stars" will have to ponder this question: Maybe my problems really stem from the fact that I’m a girl inside a boy’s body (or a boy inside a girls body). Maybe I’m not a tomboy; I’m just a boy! Maybe I’m not just being bullied because I’m a sensitive, reflective young man interested in flowers, not football. Maybe I’m not just uncertain about my sexuality. Maybe I’m a girl! Maybe all this angst and suffering I’m feeling as I emerge into puberty and pass through it isn’t just because I’m changing, but because I should change completely—and have my breasts removed or my penis amputated!

CHaz had an addadicktome and Cher is 90% plastic, Teflon, and botox. Why would anyone want to watch that train wreck?

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

The word want implies that you have the choice and the last time I checked the Gubment has not blocked the channels that broadcast that show and many others that I and like many other won't watch. The choice is yours, if you want to watch a transgendered person and its mostly synthetic mother on that show feel free.

Absolutely....we should all have the choice of what we want to watch on TV, and what we will allow our children to watch. that's our choice. Then along comes some self important doctor on Fox news trying to tell us what we should allow our kids to watch. I would expect every conservative to say...."hey, that's none of your business what I let my kids watch". You all are doing that aren't you?

I used to watch DWTS, my mom wanted someone to discuss it with after the show.....But I gave up on it, too boring to waste time on. But, I would have no problem letting my grand kids watch it, I don't think being a transgendered performer on TV is catching.

OHMIGOD!! DO IT FOR THE CHILDREN!!!! SAVE THE POOR. INNOCENT. VULNERABLE. DEPRESSED. CHILDREN!!!!!! They must be protected from this thing called reality! rofllol (Sorry I couldn't resist after remembering how you facetiously wielded that argument during the rec center vote !) Thanks for the laugh RT - you sounded like such a bleeding heart liberal with this post - I knew you had such a soft side. Pretty soon, you're going to be walking around Boulder in Birks and Dead t-shirts, asking people to go Occupy D.C. with you! :woo hoo:

But really, a "real" doctor, just because you agree with him? This is the guy who freaked out over the J Crew ad where the mom was painting her 5 year old son's toenails his favorite color - pink - saying it would confuse his gender identity. Yeah. whatever.

Stifling discussion by hiding it under the rug doesn't solve problems, or even deal with them in a mature manner - treat them like the burgeoning responsible adults they are. Rather than repressing and avoiding, try having frank, honest conversations instead. Rather than seeking to judge, why not attempt to understand and help, whether it's just with hormones, or deeper issues? Feelings of having grown up and become the wrong gender, and wanting to feel "right" are perfectly natural and those kids deserve help, not condemnation.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

If your kids are at "the age" where one image or video can make them do something you otherwise teach them is wrong...why are they ever watching TV? Let alone non prescreened TV?

This stuff is just the tip of the iceburg,...do you let them watch the news with you? Reports about the death penalty?

I agree. You shouldn't let your kids watch DWTS, but not because of Chaz, but rather because it is trash TV. I saw a stat where kids are involved with media over 10 hrs per day.

Turn off the trash and go outside!

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

Let them watch, but then parent them. Talk about how this poor confused Chastity Bono convinced herself she needed surgery to become a man, and now she is neither a man nor a woman.
And while there, you can talk about Cher, a woman who was so insecure in her looks that she paid tens of thousands to look unreal. Unreal in a bad way.

Personally I won't be watching because I have more important things to do than watch dance contests with D-List celebrities.
