And how do you know it is JUST a mental illness? There's so much we don't know to make a judgment on this.
Ever hear of chimeras? That's pretty scary. A woman was going to have her children taken away by child services because a blood test showed she wasn't the birth mother, even though she was.
What about people born one sex, but with organs of both sexes. Who makes the call on which sex the baby should be? And what if it's the wrong decision?
That's just the physical aspect. We don't know enough of what goes on in the body (including the brain) during development to make a decision on whether the person, who always felt better as a boy but in a female body, is mentally ill or not.
But on this I agree, in this society, even though the person starts out not mentally ill with these feelings, he/she certainly ends up that way.
