Herman Cain and his electric border fence

19 Oct 2011 09:16 #1 by Wayne Harrison
First it was a joke. Then people thought it wasn’t a joke. Then Herman Cain said it was a joke. And on Monday, Cain said his proposal for a 20-foot electrified border fence might not be a joke after all.

In a masterful example of how he's learning politician doublespeak, Cain flip-flopped again...

“Let me first say it was a joke, and some people don’t think that it was a good joke, and it’s probably not a joke that you’re supposed to make if you’re a presidential candidate,” Cain continued. “I apologize if it offended anyone. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa.”

Only, it might not be a joke, he later said, before finally saying he just doesn’t want to offend anyone.

“I don’t like to offend anyone…however, I don’t apologize for using a combination of a fence. And it might be electrified — I’m not walking away from that,” Cain backtracked. “I just don’t want to offend anybody. It was a joke to the extent in the context of the views of that speech, but in terms of what we need to do, I fully intend to do so because I’m more sensitive to our citizens being hurt.”

(Can you really run for president and not offend anyone?)

I like the idea- electrify the fence!

100,000 volts at 10 amps should do it.

I like the idea of an electric fence. Not enough to kill, but enough to give a unpleasant shock. Does sound like it would be expensive.

Not expensive- but the government will make it expensive.

Cattle ranchers install these for a few hundred bucks- the government will make it cost millions.

You got that right. They would probably use solar panels from subsidized solar companies.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I still like the idea of installing a chip, (yes we have the technology), that will cause a severe brain hemorrhage in 2nd time offenders... (install on 2nd time offenders, so basically they cross the 3rd time and they're done.)

May sound barbaric to some, but remember when crossing a known border was an act of war?.... It should be that way again.

Not the smartest plan, we would have to take care of the brain hemmoraged illegals, at least initially until word got out.

So send the bodies back... could be quite the visual deterent for would be first time offenders to see they have to cross a field of corpses. And by all means send the word out, "Come correct or leave corrected". I have ZERO compassion for those that can't or won't follow proper channels to gain access into our country. The planet is overpopulated as it is, and this might help just a little. But this way of thinking is considered radical centerist and against the grain.

Did the Berlin Wall and deadly force stop East Germans from trying to cross?

Actually it did- those machine guns were an effective deterrent. Only a few very dedicated people tried to cross into the west.

The vast majority who wanted to cross over did not even try.
