Rick Perry's plan calls for Forbes Flat tax. Great plan!

Let's face it. People make choices in life, like having kids. If you make those choices with tax credits and refunds in mind, they are pretty stupid choices. It is a classic example of how our current system and thinking penalizes those who work hard and take risks to earn a living while rewarding those who who do not or at the very worst make very poor decisions. All it does is foster endless dependency. I understand how nice it is to get some money you were not expecting and then go out and spend it more often than not not on desperately needed items but on fun things. But that again only serves to illustrate poor decision making. If you have basic needs the fun needs to wait or take the form of something not requiring money. Just my way of thinking. I'm aware of the poor and needy arguments, but at some point you do need to look at the reality of the situation. Perhaps the extra money is better spent on education and training?

Youre 60 or 70+ years old and still working...I can't think of a worse decision. When are you gonna start living Rocdoc, when you're 80?

Doesn't refund imply they paid into something and are getting some of it back? They make 100% of their income, pay 0% taxes and then want a REFUND for their 0%? For what? And we wonder why this nation is so far in debt? I am curious to know how much the government gives in REFUNDS to people who don't pay anything in the first place? Any numbers?

Good question,

Its funny when I see people thinking they are having serious discussions here..Like this is a think tank or something..Some of the people here are not worth even talking too

Interesting story behind that sign. The guy was a pro-war supporter. The photo was taken in 2003:

Hey clueless. Rockdoc has more class and dignity in his little finger than you could ever dream of. He is working for love. He is making sure that a couple generations of those he loves are well taken care of even after he is gone. He is not like you, always putting yourself first. I read how your wife rubbed your feet and waits on you. It disgusts me. You know nothing of chivalry! You should be doing that for her every day just for putting up with you! The woman has to be a saint to deal with you! Rockdoc puts others first and as long as he enjoys what he does and still gets to enjoy life with the ones he loves, there is nothing wrong with him taking care of them first.

They get all that money each year from tax payers, just for having babies. NO ONE should get a refund check for child credit. For over paying of taxes yes. And based upon the number you just said, that is $520 billion or 1/2 a trillion over the next 10 years. Now the group of 12 can't figure out where to cut $1 trillion. There is half of it!

So you just proved that Perry's plan would cut 1/2 trillion from the deficit in 10 years. Sounds good so far.

Ahh... what plan? Where is it?

The middle class also heavily uses the child tax credit. They generally owe taxes, but reduce the amount due with that credit (it doesn't go below zero). It sounds like you'd keep that? If so, the "savings" would be less. And you'd have to take into consideration the cost to the economy since tax "refunds" to those who owe no tax are spent quickly. Also, if Perry does the same as Forbes, he too would consider the number of children. But it would be a large exemption off the income, not a credit off taxes due.

Apparently he is announcing it Tuesday and will be on O'Reily that night discussing it. Should be interesting.

Thanks Viking. As with everything he yaks without ever knowing anything. I am living now, big time. He fails to understand that I have dreams and I make dreams happen. Yes, those dreams are for my family not just for me. I'm enjoying life and enjoy giving of myself, especially for the people I love. He also is clueless about the fact a enjoy the mental stimulation work provides. There is nothing like solving complex scientific problems and coming up with novel solutions. Because he is who he is, he is featured on my foe list. No emotional responses other than laughter.
