So you don't know the answer and you don't have a magic wand that can make the economy better instantly? Instead you presume that you know how rich I am and that I only work as a hobby to occupy my time. I should be retired by now and I count myself lucky to be gainfully employed every day of the week so I can continue to pay my bills, that's right, I pay my bills instead of expecting taxpayers to cover it for me. A big chunk of every paycheck I earn goes to taxes so those who are sick, lame, or lazy can get theirs. I have no grudge with those who can't work, those who choose not to and feel that they are entitled to collect entitlements are the people I want held accountable. I'm curious, how much money do you donate to charities and how much time do you spend volunteering to support charitable organizations on an annual basis? You'll call it a tax dodge but I see the value in donations and volunteering my time to help others.

Nice deflection but I'm more interested in the answer to the last question, how would you solve this crisis? Don't have the answer? I didn't think so. Welcome to my ignore list!

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

I believe the police presence at large gatherings of people is two-fold: 1) To protect everyone there...not just to keep things peaceful but to help in case someone gets injured or ill and 2) To be somewhat of a deterrent to criminals and others that would take advantage of a large gathering of people.

I have a better idea... Let's prosecute the slimebags that rolled up all those worthless pieces of paper into packages they knew were no good, and sold them to other institutions after getting their buddies at the credit-rating agencies to lie and tell them that they were good investments. Let's prosecute the ones that never created anything but made tens-of-millions shuffling worthless paper around and finding ways to sucker people who had owned their homes for decades into refinancing into bad mortgages and then evicting them when the lies they put into .005 point fine-print were used to rig the game. Let's prosecute the slimebags that force people to train their own replacements...in other countries...right before laying them off, and hiding their profits offshore...

Yeah, it must be wonderful to sit on top of that "I've got mine, f**k you" throne.

Oh.... almost LJ. Then you had to go blaming the mortgage companies "sucker people who had owned their homes for decades into refinancing into bad mortgages". The mortgage company should be on the hook for the bad loan- BUT- no-one was forced into refinancing anything. People through their own greed wanted to refinance so they could buy that Lexus, BMW, take a trip to hawaii, buy that motorhome etc.

And what lies did they put in the fine print? Source? What the heck are you talking about? You mean the "terms of the loan"?

Bad mortgage companies made bad loans- they should go belly up without a bailout. People who borrowed more than they could pay back - should go belly up.

It's both their fault's. No-one was suckered. I heard the same commercials every one else did- just like a car dealer who says "save thousands today" - caveat emptor.

No one saves money buying a car- they spend it!

The banks are responsible for making bad loans.
The people are responsible for borrowing more than was possible to pay back.

The only innocent people are the taxpayers who got the bill!

Yes, people were suckered, my daughter was almost one of them. When she decided to buy a home herself, she went to a very reputable mortgage company to get pre-qualified for a loan so she could seriously house hunt.......they qualified her for a mortgage at $xxx dollars.....she was pretty excited as she thought she would have to buy a home for much less......they ran the numbers for her, showed her how she could pay a mortgage that size, along with taxes etc.......but still, she wasn't sure. She saves lives, but has little head for finances, so she brought the whole package to us for an opinion. Bottom line, if she had taken a mortgage that size she would now be in forclosure.....there was no way she could pay that every month even if nothing ever went wrong, she had no medical bills, nothing ever broke in her house, and her car just kept on running forever. I cut her payments by over 30% and told her to go back to the mortgage company with the new figures.......and they were pissed that she had gone elsewhere for an opinion. She immediately switched mortgage companies.

There are people like her everywhere, who maybe don't have an accountant for a mother, they go to the "experts" for advice and a mortgage....and are qualified for far more then they could ever afford, but they don't understand the finances well enough to know it is going to be a bad mortgage.

What was the topic again?...so many deflections....sheesh.

Well...if posters would refrain from making statements that aren't true....we wouldn't have to go off on so many tangents.

Yeah, it must be wonderful to sit on top of that "I've got mine, f**k you" throne.

Nobody forced ANYBODY to participate in the housing schemes that were going on throughout the last decade. Anybody with half a brain can say to themselves "gee I only make $27,000 annually but they're going to loan me $400,000 to buy this house that's actually only worth about $289,000... I don't think I want to get involved in this!" The stuff that was going on was wacky from start to finish - the financing was flaky, the pricing was outrageously inflated, the number of hands in the pie when you went to buy or sell real estate was unreal - everything about the housing market stank - for years. Anybody who got caught out borrowing too much to overpay on too little is now suffering for their greed and short-sightedness. If more of us had had the backbone to stand up to the BS that was happening in the housing market - and do the right thing regardless of what the next guy was doing - it wouldn't be half the mess it is now.

As for the socialist slobs of OWS, they don't even know why they're protesting - it's just a whole lot more fun, dramatic and attention-grabbing than actually getting a job and building a life. These people remind me of the sixties generation - ignorant, lazy and over-indulged.

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. - Sir Winston Churchill
