Why go to a Catholic University if you are a Muslim?
Muslims say crosses at Catholic University Violate “Human Rights”
Oct 26, 2011
The Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights confirmed that it is investigating allegations that Catholic University violated the human rights of Muslim students by not allowing them to form a Muslim student group and by not providing them rooms without Christian symbols for their daily prayers.
The investigation alleges that Muslim students “must perform their prayers surrounded by symbols of Catholicism – e.g., a wooden crucifix, paintings of Jesus, pictures of priests and theologians which many Muslim students find inappropriate.”
A spokesperson for the Office of Human Rights told Fox News they had received a 60-page complaint against the private university. The investigation, they said, could take as long a six months.
Thank God Fox doesn't hype this story or blow it out of proportion.
From reading the student newspaper version of this it appears that students of various faiths attend the university. The issue appears to be the university not providing a ROOM for the Muslim students to pray that is devoid of crucifixes, crosses or other religious symbols.
The official allegations claim that CUA, “does not provide space – as other universities do – for the many daily prayers Muslim students must make, forcing them instead to find temporarily empty classrooms where they are often surrounded by Catholic symbols which are incongruous to their religion,” according to a press release on PRLOG.com.
It also says the university won't allow Muslim students to form an association but does allow Jewish students to form an association.
While I'm more supportive of Muslim rights than your average Joe - I'm really not sure why a student would expect to attend a Catholic University, and expect the Catholic faith to discard its most basic elements.
Would I have a realistic expectation to belief that I could go to a muslim country and place my crucifixs about during the day and be alive to go home to wifey at night?
To hell with those minority few that want to cram their crap down the majority many! Folks, it is time to knock this sh** off!
OK what part of this sounds like a setup. ALL OF IT. When those students went there they knew it was a catholic school. So now they are offended. Tell you what, carry your whining muslim butts out of that school and go find one that will put up with your BS. Its a private school, and these muslims have a ambulance chasing lawyer who wants to attempt to make a name for himself. The BS of "well I am offended so you have to change is just that BS". Pack your crap up and leave the school. You knew what type of school it was and this is nothing more than trying to force thier views on others. HELL NO

The case sounds silly to me.
Agreed. It was their choice to attend and it can be their choice to leave if they find it offensive. It's kind of like my living in "western camp" where we are supposed to find a refuge in Saudi Arabia only to have them tell me I need to remove my Christmas tree because they find it offensive. Fat chance they would listen if I protested this in terms of infringing on my human rights. My experience is that an expected concession to faith represents a 2-way street. Many Muslims expect religious respect while traveling to the western world, but have no intension of returning such tolerance. A two way street quickly turns into a one way highway in the ME. Yes, I admit to liking equal treatment. It is NOT an entitlement as some seem to expect and demand knowing it is a sensitive issue and thereby make a play on this issue for their own benefit. (Reminder to self) As with every culture, religious group, race or nationality, there are thousands of good for every bad human beings.
