How do you squeeze out another 100 million dollars for the Colorado government? If your Gov. Hickenlooper - you nail the old geezers for it!
The Governor wants seniors to forgo the tax break again- this will be the third year that seniors 65 or older will not get to exempt the first 200K of their homes from property tax.
Lawmakers suspended the tax exemption for the past two years and Hick wants to do it again next year.
Where is the outrage? Hey Hick- how bout cutting another 100 million out of the bloated budget instead of nailing the old folks for it?

There we go... trying to protect the 1% again. We know how much money old folks are worth. Perhaps we should tax them even higher since they are automatically going to opt out of the taxpayers base soon... as soon as they die.
The new spin from the liberal media is that most of the wealth in the country is concentrated in the hands of old folks, so Gov. Hick is just playing by the OWS rules.
Besides if you can afford to keep your home, you shouldn't need an exemption, right?

Interesting how this article (from 11/02/11, and previously posted), also says:
That was before Republicans regained control of the House, and the two-year suspension expires in 2012. House Speaker Frank McNulty, R-Highlands Ranch, has said House Republicans will not go along with another suspension.
However, Republicans have voted to suspend the tax break in the past.
So, it would appear that all that has to happen is for the Republicans not to vote for it... I guess we'll see how committed they are to not raising taxes, won't we.....
So, as usual, an article that says the Governor "wants to" suddenly becomes "The Governor is going to...." Having a little trouble with the verb tenses there, Sparky?

You have a link to any of that spin?
There was a thread here were it was hashed out. IIRC, seniors have 42 times as much wealth as the young right now. Some people think it is because seniors are more likely to save than the current generations. But part of that is just the current economy. Seniors most likely bought their homes long before the bubble and for Americans, most of our wealth is tied to our houses.

I'm confused. If seniors have 42 times the amount of wealth than the young right now, then you're saying it's true that most of the wealth in the country is concentrated in the hands of old folks... right?
I would agree that the wealth is concentrated in the hands of the older generations. And it will be that way for awhile, they are more likley to be retired with defined pension plans. The kids in their 20's, if they have investments in the market, those have been flatlined for a decade. They are likely to have much more student debt and if they own a house, they probably are underwater on the value. And it looks even worse for the coming generation. More of them are moving back home because they can't find jobs and are putting off kids and marriage. Taking more entry-level employment than getting hired based on thier degree.

Then they deserve to pay higher taxes and what's the problem with cutting all these benefits seniors get?
