But emergency services usually get a lot more paid time off than retail workers. I am not saying it should be illegal to make people work on Thanksgiving, I just think if no one showed up on Friday they might not spend the extra money next years.
BTW, Black Friday isn't the biggest shopping day, turns out procrastinating men make the Saturday before Christmas the biggest shopping day, 12/17 or 12/24 this year.

Shouldn't businesses be allowed to decide for themselves if they want to be open or not? I thought you guys were for less government intervention? With the current unemployment rate, I'm sure the companies will have no problems staffing around the clock, if they want.
On the other hand, Chic-fil-A is closed on Sundays and does just fine.
