JEFFERSON COUNTY - Critics have found a use for Jefferson County's so-called "Pedestrian Bridge to Nowhere."

Protesters used it as a stage near Southwest Plaza Mall on Friday.

They posted letters that spelled out: "$3 million bridge to nowhere - for crying out loud - vote conservative."

Nobody was arrested, or pepper sprayed, and the bridge was left cleaner than when the Tea Partiers arrived.

Vote Conservative? The bridge was voted on unanimously (3-0) in 2009. 2 of the 3 votes were from Republican (ie Conservative) commissioners Kevin McCasky & Faye Griffin!

Kudos to the protesters for cleaning the bridge?

Don't you love conservative revisionist-history... I could sit and watch it for hours...

Did the sign say vote Republican? I thought it said vote Conservative, there is a difference. McCasky, and Griffen are not exactly conservatives.

Regardless it seems to be a waste of money, money that could be better spent.

There are many Republicans that fail to be fiscal conservatives. Fueling the gravy train for your contributers is NOT conservative. It's self serving no matter who does it, and they should be voted out.

To Photo and LJ did you really think folks were protesting not knowing that Republicans voted for the bridge? How very myopic of you, or were you just trying to portray the protestors as stupid?

I am not psychic and do not know what the protesters are thinking, just as those posting against OWS do not know what all of them are thinking. I would imagine that a few of them in fact did NOT know who voted for the bridge but just think it is a big waste of $$$. I would agree with them on that point. But trying to turn it into a conservative vs liberal issue is misleading. It is rather myopic of the protesters. There is no way to know that a liberal would have voted the bridge down, just speculation that if they are liberal/democrat then they would have supported the wasteful spending for bridge.

How's the fly tying?

In general both the r's and d's favor increased spending when they are in power and can direct it to their guys. That is why we had to invent the tea party.

Pressure produces diamonds. The more pressure we put on our representatives the better the result. If we think our job is done on election day we get...... Well, what we have had for the past two decades. Nether side is blameless. It's time to learn from our mistakes and apply the lessons.
