It could be because he denied his guilt and refused to take responsibility for it all the way up to the conviction. All along he kept maintaining he was innocent. To have an 11th-hour "change of heart", give a half-assed apology, and then ask for leniency at the sentencing, after maintaining you didn't do anything wrong during the whole process, probably didn't sit too well with the judge. (And the phone-tap tapes were pretty damning...)
The problem in Chicago is that what the people in Chicago want and what the politicians have to do are very different things. Its a democratic city, the people are inteligent there. When Politicians try to represent the people they are in direct conflict with what the banks and corporate interest have paid them to do..And those institutions run the country, own the courts and the media. Ya can't beat them.....And this is why Obama can't /wont do sh** for us, and niether will the next guy...We gotta get their filthy money out of politics
They did grant special leniency in Blago's prison term. He will be allowed hair products in his cell to include mousse and hairspray. A man has to keep up appearances.
