I've never seen someone who's brought more unity between liberals and conservatives alike in calling a poster out on their behavior as I've seen with you. Now, back to the thread. Very sad that folks are still killing and dying over religion. One would think in the 21st century that humankind would have gotten over believing in a bunch of compiled fairy tales whose sole purpose is to keep people ignorant and enslaved (IMO).

We as a nation/military power have no business in Nigeria.

Investigators suspect a local vigilante group was behind the incident, Muka added.

That's terrible. The religious violence in Nigeria is shared by both sides... Muslim and Christian. The government tries to make believe there is no problem... The reality of the situation does not back up the Sultan's statement. In addition to the Christian/Muslim violence, you also can add the Muslim on Muslim violence. The radical Islamist group Boko Haram is well known for killing Muslims, for not being "Muslim" enough or for showing any secular sympathy to other religious groups. Boko Haram is the group who took responsibility for the recent Christmas day bombings of the Christian churches. But they are not stingy with their violence... "Boko Haram opposes not only Western education, but Western culture and modern science as well.[13] The group also forbids the wearing of shirts and pants and the act of voting in elections. In its view, the Nigerian state is run by non-believers.[8]" ... and they don't limit their violence to Christians... "On April 20, Boko Haram killed a Muslim cleric and ambushed several police officers in Maiduguri... The prominent Muslim Cleric Liman Bana was shot dead by Boko Haram on August 12, 2011." All in all... there are factions in Nigeria who don't want any sort of peace.

It's horrible to think that people can still engage in religious warfare... simply for believing in a magic man in the sky.

This makes no sense to me. Even if I agreed with you that the people you name were acting in some concerted, negative way (and I don't, because I've seen virtually every poster on this forum "go negative" at one time or another, I don't think there is any "socialist" monopoloy on it).

But if I see someone behaving in a way I don't find admirable, the last thing on earth I would do would be to deliberately behave in the same way. It's actually validating behavior you don't agree with, don't you see that?
