I agree with you AV. However, while that is the adult" thing to do, it's only half of what really needs to be done if you want too act like a real adult. I've made several attempts to highlight the haters and isolate them so we might be able to have some good discussions that don't get highjacked by the crazies....epic fail. The reason it fails is because nobody is willing to call out those @ssholes on their side. You know there has always been one super nasty poster on each side that fires the first shot and then either gets support or indifference from those on the same side.

I know it's possible because I post on a couple other message boards that are self moderated by adults who act like they are face to face. When someone makes an ignorant blanket statement, they are called out by someone on their side and they either retract the statement or they go away embarrassed. This is not possible here. Even the too most respectful...PS and SC, never call out the ignorant and hateful statements made on their side.

Bottom line is that this place will always be at the level of teenage chat room with a sprinkling of respect but ultimately controlled by the hateful mud slingers. I suppose that is what most of you want, but just look at how rare it is to get a new voice in the mix....nobody outside wants to come in and speak...it's hard enough just to watch.

TLGT won't be successful using that strategy although I respect the attempt. It takes the courage of the more respected posters to embarrass the bottom feeders....IMO, there is very little courage around here.

Actually, no, I don't "see that". Anyone who has posted here or at the "other place" any length of time (and that includes virtually all the active posters here) knows that some posters are more "barbed" than others. And the "making nasty an art form" appears on both sides.

Personally, I don't have that big a problem with nasty. I have a problem with the inane, with the contentless, with the mindlessly partisan that not only doesn't advance a discussion but fails to see it's own inanity.

I don't see a lot of point in singling out this or that poster as the "offender", let alone playing some elaborate game of mimicking what I imagine is their bad behavior.

It isn't humorous and it isn't even effective. A person would have to be blind not to have already noticed the foibles and failings of most of the posters here.

If you want to improve the quality of the discussion here, call people out on the quality (or lack of) of their viewpoints and arguments. I've seen you do it and you do it rather well. It's much more effective than complaining about someones charateristic response to an argument, which no amount of satirizing is going to change anyway.

I'm not trying to help anyone or anything. But I will throw back the same kind of trash to LJ, you or anyone who wants to take the tact of being down right nasty like that little list above. If you're feeling so "put down" as a conservative, I'd suggest you look into why you are walking around with such a chip on your shoulder, because I just don't see this mass effort to put conservatives down.
