Student shares inhaler ----- now facing possible expulsion..

Okay - I understand - it's not a great idea to share prescription meds with a classmate (especially in junior high).

But come on ---- this is fricking silly.

(I think a 2-3 day suspension might be okay - but expulsion???? Come on!)

I'd have to agree with you BB. Now kids are taught to not step in and help one in need for fear of being done personal harm. Reminds me of what is happening with good Samaritans and auto accidents. Don't bother to stop and help anyone in need for your actions may be used against you.

The fact that the other child could have died or been hospitalized because of a bad reaction or allergic reaction probably doesn't factor into this situation. Right? Freedom is great...but it can be a problem when given to children who do not understand the consequences of their actions.

Oh please..It's a red herring

Would fear of a lawsuit ever stop you from helping someone in trouble Roc?

Good point Archer. However, the kid could also have died without the assistance. My comment per say had nothing to do with freedom. It had everything to do with being helpful and then chastised for doing so. Would it not be possible to sit the girl (who offered the inhaler after being told b the other girl she might be having an asthma attack) down, say that here willingness to help was a good thing, but that offering her inhaler could have dire consequences and should not be done for these and these reasons? To me that would not send the wrong message that the school apparently is contemplating.

Zero tolerance policies. Designed by lazy liberal adults who don't want to have to make moral judgements about a situation. No chance that the child could be counseled about the danger of prescription drugs and sharing them. No chance that the girl will be told that she was brave and thoughtful to try to help her friend. No chance that all involved will learn a lesson from this and walk away with having learned something. Nope... just destroy this kids whole school year just because amoral adults are afraid to actually make a moral judgement and teach the children. Easier to just throw them under the school bus.

What kid wouldn't want a 3 day suspension anyway? I remember in the 80's If someone called in sick too much at my place of employment they got time off without pay..I called in 19 days one November and December so they called me in and gave me a week off. It just happened to be a thursday between two 3 day weekends so I had eleven days off..I told my wife to pack her bags, were going to Kaui..I was in my hearing at 7am, and we were seated in first class on the plane at 11am..That was the winter of 86 I think..I remember watching Mcmahon lose to the Redskins in the playoffs at 8am there one morning...Anyway, its was -20 in Chicago the whole time we were gone...Some punishment huh?
